As Phil said this evening, ‘well, it’s Bowie’. And Bowie also got a free pass for his coke-addled Nazi-positive rants.

Phil Wang did a section on how racist Bowie’s ‘China Girl’ was. Having gone to YouTube to check. Well, yes.

To the art deco glories of the Old Savoy this evening to see Phil Wang, Ivo Graham, Rachel Parris
& Thanyia Moore. Phil Wang I was already a fan of, Thanyia Moore is new to me but really good.
The stage ready for the show- not so easy to photograph on a phone Showing some of the art deco signage throughout the building, which is surprisingly unaltered. The original 1920s clock at the back of the auditorium The stage, before anyone else was there

saw a preview screening of I Swear this evening, before general release tomorrow

it’s a biopic about John Davidson, who developed a severe form of Tourette syndrome as a young boy in Scotland in the 80s, when acceptance and understanding were almost non-existent

What if ageing isn’t the problem - but our systems are?

My new blog explores how changing #demographics is affecting retirement, #health, and the economy.

The question is not whether demographic trends will reshape our world – it’s how we will choose to respond.

This is just the sort of television that they don't make any more - there's now a strong aversion to "talking heads". But if the heads are interesting enough, there is nothing more riveting. #philsky

This is maybe my least pro-market position: the good thing about drinking in a pub is there is an adult who can cut you off, something which cannot happen when you are drinking alone with the booze you bought at Tesco.

Should go further and tax supermarket beer at a higher rate than at the moment- raises revenue, targets the biggest source of binge drinking and might help get people back into pubs.

My hero is a farmer, not a duck. Which will only make sense if you read this new piece by me, the start of a new substack which I am bravely calling How To Run A Country.

Interesting piece, this. Unlike his friend, Kingsley Amis, Burgess is sharply critical of Thatcher, for inducting a social philosophy that suggests '[t]here is something criminal about being poor'. He also warns, unheeded, that education should never 'be considered in terms of a market economy'...

Ah, maybe. I didn’t go there much. I remember buying Guinness and not staying long because it was too crowded. But that was some time ago.

Am game for this if I can play a Tory loyalist who won't fight and knows deep down that if we fail to gain independence, we'll end up no worse than Canada, a commonwealth entity with better health care, a lower poverty rate and relatively sane, coherent politics. God Save The King.

What does it take to be a Revolutionary War reenactor? Caity Weaver traveled across New England and to New York’s Fort Ticonderoga, put on period clothing, and shot a musket to find out:

It’s all ancient history ofc but I’m curious, I can’t think of another bar round there where you could get something decent from the hand pump. (Having read this I know it’s all fnarr fnarr but can’t be bothered to amend anything.)
