Welp. I just deleted a couple of posts that were deep in threads that a whole bunch of people were taking out of context and accusing me of things I was not advocating for. My mentions are destroyed for the day and I have real work to do, so comments off on this post as well.

Republicans voted over 70 times (!) to repeal Obamacare even though they knew they didn’t have the numbers, but it pleased the base, kept them energized, and showed that the party is still fighting despite being in the minority.

THREAD: I'll fact-check all the viral misinformation about the US military operation in Venezuela in this thread

This image, purporting to show the US military arresting Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, is AI-generated.

According to Google's SynthID detector, it was created using Google AI.

Also, when reporters start talking about the chatbots this way, it is imperative to remind them they are basically asking a toaster for comment. They should be a lot more embarrassed about this than they currently are.

“Grok told CNN…” no it didn’t. You typed stuff into an unreliable calculator.

The way the press is treating chatbots, like they have agency and they “know” things all of a sudden, crossed the line recently from dumb and obsequious to something else entirely. Treating them as alive and making conscious decisions is an almost religious belief. It won’t age well.

Find me the conservative parents with kids in daycare who would be okay with a group of anonymous men, some masked, some with cameras, being allowed without their permission into their kid’s daycare in the middle of the day to *film their kids*.

Find me one.

“We need to be able to get the principals on the record” doesn’t apply to Levi’s, Smith College or Washington University.

What’s more troubling is that Weiss apparently didn’t even try to get the other side. If she had and they refused to talk, that’d be in the stories

Having Grok issue an “apology” is not just insulting and stupid (obviously Grok cannot actually “regret” anything, deeply or otherwise) but cowardly: It asks us to assign responsibility to an unconscious piece of software rather than the humans and institutions who should actually be blamed.

It's amazing how many corporations -- much less private individuals -- still believe they need to stay active on the white nationalist forum and CSAM generator.

Sure, you may have succeeded in blocking yourself from seeing these things there, but all of us still see you there alongside those things

Just flat-out declaring that everything Adams did as mayor after the indictment—in the final fifteen months and five days of his term of office—was presumptively corrupt, and undoing everything that's in his immediate power to undo with a single stroke of the pen.

This is the way.

I was wondering what Mamdani's first executive order would be, and I'm not disappointed by this.

He has wiped off the books EVERY Eric Adams executive order issued on or after September 26, 2024, the day Adams was indicted on federal bribery charges.

Strange takes on Mayor Zamdani swearing his oath on the Qu’ran. It has nothing to do with church & state. The point of the oath is for the person swearing in to do so upon some text that is sacred TO THEM. Some Presidents swore in w/o any book. John Quincy Adams was sworn on a law book. His choice.

Bruv, the historical record will appropriately reflect that the Trump movement is a lunatic caravan.

Other states need to follow the California lead and mandate that LEO reports that were “helped” by AI must be marked as such. This is the expected outcome of an LLM - give it video and include spurious audio (from the movie Princess and the Frog) and it hallucinates the LEO into a frog. 🥺
A frog, how silly. But people are fallible and sloppy and policing is a racist institution so the police report fraud that will be most systemic and uncorrected will be the racist kind. An audit would have been done and found this use inherently unsafe and unethical if the impacts weren't so biased.

Trump’s Drone Ban Is Corrupt, Protectionist Nonsense Dressed Up As A National Security Fix
For years we had to listen to a bipartisan roster of lawmakers insist that TikTok was one of the greatest national security threats to ever face the nation. In reality, they were mostly just interested in protecting Facebook from a short-form video company it couldn't out innovate. And ultimately, it was about transferring TikTok ownership and its revenues to Trump's billionaire buddies…
