People working in their own narrow self-interest to the detriment of the wider public sphere? It's a tragedy of the Commons!
Social media really has ruined Commons scrutiny in that nobody hunts in a pack anymore, it's just 'would the minister like to repeat his statement but for *my* Facebook clip' these days.

Gerry Adams sweating nervously now. Praying that nobody remembers what his brother did or how he covered it up.
It's rather dizzying how much more responsive to the Epstein file releases at least some European countries have been than the US.

I'm not surprised, mind.

The significance of Mr Pond's identity is it emphasises how serious Mandelson's breach of confidence was, because it shows the level of discussion he was passing on.

Which, of course, vicariously doesn't reflect well on Mr Pond who appointed him.

Thanks to @blunderball.bsky.social and a bit of poking around in BBC Genome I have discovered that the 1982 adaptation of the Lord of the Rings has only been repeated twice on Radio 4 three times in the past 44 years (1987 and 2002).
Radio buffs help me. When was the last time that the 1981 adaptation of The Lord of the Rings was broadcast on BBC Radio?

I've said that for years now. And by all accounts he was a quiet, unassuming man out of politics. His desire to stay out of the limelight and his relatively early death cost us a great mind to talk about issues.

Darling was one of the best ever chancellors of the exchequer and it's not even close.
Explosive from @faisalislam.bsky.social about that call that did take place with Dimon and Darling.

@nutedawn.bsky.social Gordon Brown? Bad actually.
NEW: Who was John Pond?

This August 2009 email exchange which was forwarded to Jeffrey Epstein included Mandelson, the PM's PPS Jeremy Heywood, the minister/adviser Shriti Vadera and... John Pond.

Two sources have told the BBC that John Pond was in fact Gordon Brown, then the PM

Coursework will need to be an open book test I think.

Then you have a test as well.
Marking now takes double the time as I chase fictitious sources and hallucinated citations.
I guess the era of coursework is over. I'm not supportive of return to exams (even though it may be a practical solution). Not sure where we go from here.

Having given up nukes, long range ability to threaten Russia and the entire firing chain, Ukraine was subsequently rewarded with invasion, concern and thoughts & prayers.

Love how the BBC Sport app doesn't even have a scorecard of Scotland women's game against USA.

It's only a qualification match for the T20 World Cup later this summer in England. No big deal or anything...
