Rewatched The Shining this weekend and was struck by how Jack cannot accomplish a single thing the entire movie. He doesn't actually take care of the hotel (Wendy checks the boiler, not him, he doesn't shovel, never repairs anything), he can't write, he can't even kill his family!

WOW. So this is obviously a huge violation of this man's rights, and it illustrates a few things we're seeing broadly:

- DHS officers are ignoring peoples' IDs and instead requiring screening through their own systems
- Confirms @404media.co's reports of use of DHS's facial recognition app.

WHICH MESSAGE WILL RESONATE WITH DEMOCRATIC PRIMARY VOTERS?

"Better angels of our nature"

OR

"Behold, the day of the Lord comes, cruel, with wrath and fierce anger... I will punish the wicked for their iniquity; I will put an end to the pomp of the arrogant, and lay low the pomp of the ruthless."
Once again, for 2028 I'm a single issue voter and that issue is post-Trump lustration. GTFO with "better angels of our nature" for once.

my review of Stranger Things Season 5: goddamn this shit is exhausting. Every scene reexplains the plot and stakes directly to the camera. Each episode should be 25 minutes, 30 tops

"Western civilization," the font, the 11 stars - 11 states in the confederacy, for the record.

Why is this never news? Why are we letting our government agencies do this sort of thing while the news agencies report on hallucinated trade deals and act like everything is normal

This is not the worst book we've ever read but it is the meanest episode we've ever done.
Episode 46: Sapiens

It's an ambitious goal to write the entire history of humanity in just 400 pages. It's even more ambitious to do it without reading any research.

The Founders were so concerned about bribery that the Constitution forbids it three separate times. Two emoluments clauses ban officials—unambiguously including the president—from accepting things of value, plus bribery is the only named impeachable offense besides treason.

Unprecedentedly corrupt.
