Your backyard argument is neither here nor there. Just because they would be held in England (no problem with that) would make no difference to either of us. It didn't in the 70s and it won't now.

A Party that cannot be trusted with a nation's security is not a viable or electable party, especially in a time of rising tension.

If Ukraine falls and Putin then after a period of rearmament then invaded Estonia, what then. Sooner or later NATO will be involved and will be conventionally superior.
I'm certainly not advocating intervention but ignoring a possibility will not make it go away.

A luke warm UK in NATO, with an eye on when it can exit, is not the correct position to take and whilst a nuclear weapons free world is an ideal, a commitment to unilateral nuclear disarmament is not.

It reminds me of a conversation I had around 2001 with a Jarvis manager on the Army College PFI build. He said that they were responsible for every aspect of the build and after hand over running of the college. "Everything except the range, and we have the contract for picking up the spent bullets"

There's rarely been any support for bringing a child into the world. Historically the family has supported them, as you point out.
Remove the support that elderly relatives provide and you have a far bleaker view of child testing than we have at present.
