In our October Strength In Numbers/Verasight poll, 53% of adults opposed Trump's strikes on Venezuelan boats and only 33% supported. (I imagine support for a full war, and this blockade, would be even lower.) www.gelliottmorris.com/p/new-poll-v...

Special credit to @johnkenny.bsky.social @andraroescu.bsky.social Stuart Smedley & Nick Or who did the hard, sometimes boring work of converting data. And thanks to @kathleenweldon.bsky.social @peterenns.bsky.social and everyone at @ropercenter.bsky.social for their collaboration on the project.
For the historical polling nerds out there, an article about our project with @ropercenter.bsky.social that digitised ~800 surveys by Gallup poll in Britain between 1955 and 1991 has been published in JEPOP. The merged dataset contains over three-quarters of a million respondents.
Revealing long-term trajectories of public opinion and polling in Britain: a new resource of historical data from the Gallup Poll in Britain, 1955–1991
From the 1930s to early 2000s, the British affiliate and later subsidiary of the Gallup Organization conducted around three thousand surveys of public opinion in Great Britain. While the records of...

When public opinion shifted, the court usually followed. In their LA Times op ed, our co founder & chief data scientist @peterenns.bsky.social & Patrick Wohlfarth show that this pattern no longer holds under Chief Justice Roberts, marking a statistically rare & consequential break from past courts.
Contributor: When did the Supreme Court stop caring about public opinion?
The court has historically understood the perils of completely ignoring precedent and the will of the people. Chief Justice John Roberts is different.

We are proud to share a new op-ed in the LA Times by our co-founder and chief data scientist, @peterenns.bsky.social, written with Patrick Wohlfarth. Drawing on decades of data, they show how this departure has contributed to declining confidence in the court.

My @latimes.com op-ed from today, with Patrick Wohlfarth, showing Supreme Court decisions have moved opposite public opinion under Roberts: www.latimes.com/opinion/stor...

Here's some evidence on that point from Kevin McGuire and Jim Stimson (www.journals.uchicago.edu/doi/abs/10.1...) and from Chris Casillas, Patrick Wohlfarth, and myself: onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10....

Under Chief Justice Roberts the relationship has turned negative, with Supreme Court decisions moving opposite public opinion.
Patrick Wohlfarth and I find the longstanding relationship between public opinion and Supreme Court decisions that we and others have previously documented no longer exists. www.latimes.com/opinion/stor...

Working with @verasight.io, this will be the most comprehensive assessment of perceptions and perspectives on an important policy issue in the state. Our survey design allows us to reach more granular descriptions of residents' perceptions of energy policy than have been possible previously.
At the start of the term, voters seemed skeptical of the “iron rule” of midterm loss. More recent data from @verasight.io paints a more complex picture. Check out our (@marystegmaier.bsky.social & Mike Lewis-Beck) new piece @center4politics.bsky.social
