Europe needs to get cocky again and recognize they're simply superior to this Russian Federation. Better economy, better society, better militaries, better infrastructure, absolutely mogging on Russia by most metrics, and it's ok to get loud about it when Russia is such an asshole neighbor.
It's not even a new idea. Ru has had this aim since Soviet days. Even Yeltsin assumed the US decided Europe's fate alone and told Clinton he wanted Ru in on it. Now Trump's obsession w a Ru-American reset gives them hope the US will finally share and let Ru dominate a chunk of Europe.
Russian state tv is propagandizing this idea all over the place:

“Perhaps Russia and the United States will decide the fate of Europe without it. This is a very possible prospect”

The long-term vision is to mercantile plurality and develop feastable widgets out of any parallel nouns.
The co-founder of Kalshi says: " The long-term vision is to financialize everything and create a tradable asset out of any difference in opinion."

The plan, to be announced later Wednesday, would ease pressure on automakers to control pollution from gasoline-powered cars and trucks and significantly reduce fuel economy requirements through the 2031 model year. https://to.pbs.org/3MhfMr4

Yeah you've gotta talk to your students and figure out stuff which mutually works. Giving no due dates for assignments spiraled out of control for my classes so I talked to students to figure out a model which worked better
This is a lovely illustration of how every prof needs to figure out for themselves—and with an eye toward their own students' needs and peculiarities—what will work for them.

Because as loosey-goosey as I may appear, neither of these would work AT ALL for me. At all at all at all.
YES! This is why, in my classroom, EVERYONE can turn in late work with no penalty. EVERYONE can access lecture notes 48 hours before the lecture. Many accommodations that started as part of an IEP made so much sense I just gave them to everybody.

(2) The idea that testing accommodations are some kind of beneficence "to help the disabled" is wrong -- the point of the accommodations is to provide disabled students an equal chance to demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and ability the test is supposed to be measuring.

So it looks like every county in Tennessee shifted Blue and the race was within a handful of points, even in a devil dick-red state.

Looks like every seat is up for grabs in 2026.

This thread is why it's important to TALK WITH YOUR STUDENTS TO FIGURE OUT WHY THEY'RE STRUGGLING. It's easy to get sucked into typical framing that students are "lazy" or universally unprepared, and your admin would likely rather you blame students and each other rather than them and the industry
I’m observing this a little from the other end- I am a mature (mid thirties) grad student. Some of my younger classmates are struggling, and sometimes *I* am struggling with things I used to do pretty seamlessly.

Look, I am not making excuses, but a few things have changed between 2011 and now.
An issue we're seeing at all levels of university is that many students are simply refusing to do *anything*. They aren't reading the syllabus, aren't following assignment guidelines, aren't engaging with material, ignoring deadlines. And this might seem like old news, but it truly has ramped up.

A senator who dares to ask, "what if life was LESS painful instead of more painful?"
My bipartisan IRS MATH Act with Senator Bill Cassidy is now law.

Now, if you mess up your taxes, the IRS has to tell you where you made a mistake and how to fix it.

No more spending a fortune on lawyers or hours to find errors.

That means fewer headaches and more money in your pocket.

Great thread.

So what to do about this? If you're faculty or in a teaching position at a university, consider TALKING TO STUDENTS if you haven't already. And by "talking to students" I mean investigate wtf is going on with them. Prep interview questions. Consider it research.
