these are valid criticisms of the presidency and his close allies. the Canada will be the 51st state was abhorrent too. its like you all get distracted so easily. I know it aint cause you support maduro minus zohran, aoc, and Bernie. so why the fuck was it so hard to say we got him this morning

Which country has said anything anti capturing maduro… France uk and Italy are in support. china?
I am mostly reserving judgement on Venezuela while things develop. But my initial thoughts.

1) Maduro’s rendition probably doesn’t advance any U.S. foreign policy objectives, per se.
2) It invites significant reputational damage.
3) The WH doesn’t appear to have planned beyond this point.

All of europe can basically come out and say good job america for getting rid of maduro meanwhile everyone on this shithole website has aligned themselves with maduro you all are terrible human beings
January 3, 2026 at 10:33 PM
happy to see macron come out in support of deposing maduro while le pen in usual terrible fashion didn't
January 3, 2026 at 10:05 PM
oh cool we've got the people who spent 5 minutes reading an article on wikipedia ready to declare themselves an expert and are smarter than the millions of Venezuelans who escaped this regime to neighboring countries and America. can't wait for these people to espouse their bs
something worth pointing out is that Americans largely have zero concept of who Bolivar was, what he did, and what South Americans think about him
VP Delcy Rodriguez, whom Trump indicated earlier today was collaborating with the US government, is live on television right now.

Earlier reports that she's in Russia are false. She's in Caracas with the rest of the cabinet.

Rodriguez: "We will never again be a colony for any empire"

yes deposing a dictator and killing millions of innocent civilians with a weapon of mass destruction are so similar.

I mean if anything this should be a blessing for dems. Go after bukele when you become president in 2028 he should be hung too

My extreme unpopular opinion hot take is that there is a path for all of this to 'work out' because there is more or less already a Venezuelan shadow government in Gonzalez and Machado. Who whatever they are or might become, are not currently Chalabi nor Karzai.
January 3, 2026 at 1:32 PM
So proud of them moving in the right direction. we need to topple more dictators
The Washington Post editorial board comes out in favor of the Venezuela attack/operation to capture Maduro

The region was already unstable and yes I am glad my uncle who lives part time and works in GuTana does not have to deal with a maniac leader who spends his days thinking about how to take over Guyana for oil
WEEEEEEEE

I LOVE STATE COLLAPSE

I LOVE POWER VACCUMS

I LOVE ARMED GROUPS COMPETING TO CENTRALIZE THEIR POWER IN THE ABSENCE OF A LEGITIMATE MONOPOLY ON VIOLENCE

I LOVE THE SPREAD OF REGIONAL INSTABILITY

Idk if yall know this but Venezuela has already destabilized the region. Millions of Venezuelan immigrants legal and illegal fled the past decade to Colombia chile and Peru. That is destabilizing for countries without the infrastructure to handle them
January 3, 2026 at 4:04 PM
Maybe don’t kill 10s of thousands of your own people and run scam elections. The international community minus the usual bad actors have all said maduro is a pariah. You don’t have to like trump to say Maduro being removed and possibly hung is a good day
The Maduro precedent is that no national leader is safe and we should volunteer our own to be the first to get got
As a member of the domestic opposition who believes Donald Trump to be illegitimate and unconstitutional executive, I hereby consent to any foreign power entering the US through force of arms, abducting Trump, and trying him under the laws of your own nation.

Since apparently this is how it works.

Come on, basically every international body has repeatedly said Maduro is a brutal authoritarian dictator who's murdered tens of thousands and held farcical rigged elections.
The thing is though they spent a decade investigating and building evidence against Hernandez before he was indicted.

It’s the flimsy and pretextual nature of the accusations here that stands out, since the same could be applied to Sheinbaum or Carney or virtually anyone else next week.
Unfortunately this is less unprecedented than people reacting right now might like. We prosecuted Hernández like a month after his presidency ended and Noriega was captured after we invaded while he was dictator there. That doesn't make it OK but it does make me skeptical there'll be consequences.
January 3, 2026 at 3:03 PM
Then don’t become an authoritarian despot who cripples his own people and subjugates them in terrible conditions while abusing multiple human rights. You don’t need to like trump to say maduro should be in jail hell you can put trump in next to him in 3 yrs
Among the many reasons you don’t kidnap a foreign head of state at gunpoint even if you have the capability, is that it sparks consequences you can neither control nor anticipate.
January 3, 2026 at 12:52 PM
maybe we need to rethink the crimes committed by trump which as heinous as they are are not on the same level as maduro…
Marco Rubio is reportedly saying Maduro will stand trial in US courts.

Which means it’s now the US administration’s position that US courts can hold foreign presidents, but not the US president, accountable for crimes.
January 3, 2026 at 12:26 PM
It is honestly amazing that we got him. sucks trump had to be the one to do it. But I’m glad he’ll be gone and Venezuelans who suffered through his crimes can watch him stand trial and eventually be executed.
January 3, 2026 at 11:18 AM
Just say you don’t want brown Latinos to have democracy.
This is nothing like Iraq. That was a catastrophe and moral atrocity, but also, Bush was incredibly popular, spent a year securing broad public support, received congressional authorization.

Trump is very unpopular, has not bothered to build any case, and is doing this illegally and unilaterally.
January 3, 2026 at 11:15 AM
Honestly I’m happy maduro is standing trial. a dictator Is gone Venezuelans deserve democracy all you idiots crying foul just hate brown people
January 3, 2026 at 11:14 AM
my hot take of the day is tsa workers really are not that menacing, scary, and gropey. I mean if you are a woman things could be different, and im not speaking for them. but for all the men who whine about how intrusive tsa is, grow up. I have never been felt up. y'all just want to complain

if you as a zohran mamdani fan or supporter can't address the fact that he has 5b in budget deficit he needs to address before he looks at universal child care and other ideas, nor address the fact that the state has a 10b budget deficit to fill that will fall on the city and its suburbs + mta
January 2, 2026 at 9:15 PM
this is absolute cope. if you want to see how zohran will run nyc look at brandon johnson and chicago. this website's brain is going to melt when they realize that running a city is not like being an activist. he signed an eo to create a committee to look at streamlining regs on small biz and houses

very few people believe in not assigning blame to everyone of the same race, religion, gender or what not. its a terrible thing that i sometime fall prey too as well. i try to do better. its also a fine line of hating the culture and not the individual people.
i'm really having a hard time getting past the "surely we can all agree that Somalis are worse than trash" thing. this feels new and very bad
