When folks from Minneapolis say this is different than anything else they've seen before, it really is. And that is not meant to diminish anybody else's work because we need to be special. It really is Different.
We're forming cells.

We're sheltering and feeding those at risk.

We're setting up structures beyond the state.

This isn't protest. It's not quite revolution. It feels like harm mitigation as we do it, but maybe it's building our capacity for some beauty we can't see from here.

Since Reagan, the GOP has systematically sought to increase the public's cynicism about our government by making our government more dysfunctional. It has worked.
New in PN: The blame for alleged fraud in Minnesota belongs to conservatives

"Republican policies have created a perfect vicious cycle: Privatize services, let private companies run amok, then declare that the government is the problem. And the Trump administration is turbo-charging it."

In truth—a Black American Christian woman swearing in a Ugandan American Muslim of South Asian ethnicity as his Syrian American wife holds the Qurans he swears in on, all while standing on the steps of a subway station—is the most NYC thing imaginable.

His courage gives me hope amidst the horror and darkness. Muslims and Jews are not enemies. Our futures, in the Middle East and beyond, are intrinsically bound.
