In discussing his flaunting of the fugitive slave act, Reverend Luther Lee of Syracuse wrote:

“I never would obey it. I had assisted thirty slaves to escape to Canada during the last month. If the authorities wanted anything of me, my residence was at 39 Onondaga Street.”
The whole fucking point is to accept personal risk as yourself and dare the state to do anything about it.

You are there to be seen, known, and heard. Not to cosplay as an antifa super soldier.
If you've given biometrics to TSA (Pre-Check and Global Entry members) and you plan to attend a protest, you should wear a medical mask.

Ever been over to Boothbay Harbor? Great little shop there called Eventide that will let you sample the whole row from light to dark, tasting notes like wines. Very friendly folks.

Urban Twin Cities MSA is - what? 1000 sq miles and 2.6m people?

Portland, ME is 70 sq miles and 68k people. Lewiston 39k people.

People here are *very* protective of their neighbors but expecting 1000s to pour into the streets every day is wrong measure.

It will look different here.

Immigrant Legal Advocacy Project (ILAP) is the main legal aid org secure.everyaction.com/Fvm-mwXq4kiX...

The main (no pun intended) thing to realize is how very much smaller we are than MN

Not usually what I'm looking at Daddit for, but here is a moving account of a Minneapolis man who witnesses the kind of terror his neighbors have been subjected to in his attempt to help out a couple families.

A few days ago, I stood in the graveyard of an 1100 year old church, getting damper and damper in the drizzling rain.

A woman walked into the graveyard, waved, said hello, and, as we had previously arranged, handed me a paper bag full of human bones.

The life of a churchwarden is a strange one...

Highly recommend reading this thread. Solidarity and love to the people of Minneapolis.
I came to Minneapolis to report on what's going on, and one of the main questions I showed up with is "just what is the scale of the resistance?" After all, we're all used to the news calling Portland a "war zone" or whatever when it's just some protests in one part of town.

The US granted visas to Jews but only allowed 30,000 in from Germany a year. You had to wait for your number to come up.

Meet Robert Smallbones. An unassuming British diplomat who 'hacked' this system so effectively (saving 48 THOUSAND Jews) the UK government kept his scheme secret for decades /1 🧵

I'll tell you one of my favorite Uecker stories. I think people could use it.

The '82 team was in Boston. Uecker was out with them. He always was. They closed the bar, and Uecker, as he did, rounded the men up. "Everyone meet in the alley."

Best TikTok thing going is the two dudes trying food from every country without leaving NYC. If you haven’t seen them yet, it’s incredible. My favorite so far is last week’s. Legit got me emotional.

This is a classic YMMV sitch but I enjoyed a lot more because I saw on big screen and also I’ve been stormchasing several times with my meteorologist son, who personally knows the guy the Powell character is based on, and we both could laugh at the chaser inside jokes.
