I just heard someone use the phrasing “mental and MORAL health” and wow, I’m going to start using that too. I want to take care of and improve my moral health.

"Civility" is always about tone and NEVER about content. Advocating for the extermination or oppression of entire groups of people is considered perfectly civil now, as long as you're "nice" about it, while angrily pointing out that gov't is actively killing and harming people is "uncivil."

Political violence is abhorrent. I have not celebrated Kirk's death.

But Newsom calling for his followers to "continue Charlie Kirk's work," someone who praised stoning gay people as "god's perfect law," who called for men to "take care of" trans people like they did in the 50s and 60s, is not it.

The thing is, I’m pretty sure these all majority black cities and I’m worried that Trump will eventually try to occupy them too at some point. The fact that they are in Republican-controlled states isn’t a gotcha so much as evidence of how they’ve been maligned by their state governments.

“The four cities of populations larger than 100,000 with the highest murder rates in 2024 are in Republican states: Jackson, Mississippi (78.7 per 100,000 residents), Birmingham, Alabama (58.8), St Louis, Missouri (54.1) and Memphis, Tennessee (40.6).”

When I see people online, even in jest, suggest that people living in Republican-controlled states should be abandoned because of their politicians, I feel a deep heartache. New York CREATED Donald Trump and none of y’all are ever talk about it the way you disparage Alabama or Mississippi.

More than 300k Black women being pushed out of the labor market while white men gained 365k more jobs is what we mean when we refer to racism as systemic.

Unbelievable that Starfleet has replicators and people use it for boring stuff like "earl grey tea (hot)" or "scrambled eggs."

Show some backbone! Get weird with it! I want to see tribble burritos. Blood wine sangria. Steak and Romulan ale pie. Pumpkin spice raktajinos.

👇👇 THIS 👇👇 the absolute worst offenders for being inconsiderate wrt noise and space in the library, and fully ignoring reminders or requests? White dads on weekends. As if their extremely loud parenting presence were a flag they were waving. (#notalldadsorwhatever but dramatically noticeable.)
rdotspoon.bsky.social
I can’t stand the “but teens are so loud and rowdy” opinions. Adult whites are easily the most unruly and rowdy people on earth. Teens are a delight compared to any white adult sports fan or overly confident white woman approaching a woman of color outside brunch.

You know who desperately needs third spaces. Teenagers.

The thing the mainstream media is not remembering about Hurricane Katrina is their own lethal, racist contribution to treating rumors as facts used to demonize the stranded in New Orleans, turning them from victims to be aided to enemies to be contained.

“An unsettling Mad Max vibe coursed through the city. Pickup trucks with armed men of unclear authority cruised around ..

“.. I headed back to Union Street. That body could not possibly still be there. This was the United States. We collect our dead.

“Still there.”

The only prayer that matters when it comes to the regular and repeated murder of American children while they are at school is the kind of prayer that is taking action, the kind of prayer that materially fights for the living, the kind of prayer that says "never again" and means it, from MN to Gaza.

Love how, for the New York Times, using LLMs is just this value-neutral thing that everyone will eventually do, but being transgender makes you too biased to write about anything ever

V different from her others but with the same Vonda McIntyre commitment to an 70s/80s-flavored queernormative, polyamorous, neopronoun-filled universe. Upper middle grade feel, short, standalone. Honestly a wholesome joy!

Tween girl sneaks her cat onto a spaceship, shenanigans ensue! The joy is that extremely Big Deal things are happening on the ship, like first contact, but it's all happening in the background - the focus never wavers from the tween's real priority, her cat 😂. It's a weird delight.

May the Devil and all his minions chase JK Rowling so far over the pits and plains of Hell, that the Good Lord cannot find her, not even with a telescope.

"what were Jessie's exact words" is a totally reasonable good-faith question and I guess I should have clarified that I was not paraphrasing

"wish ill" was literally the wording!

they have added "wishing harm upon a person or group" to their list but like . . . context matters . . .

it appears that @bsky.app have suspended the account of @jessiegender because a trans person saying "I wish ill on JK Rowling" is against the rules, so let me say with my loud cis voice that I too wish ill on all perpetrators of hate speech against trans people

reinstate Jessie, this is ridiculous

I’m going to keep saying this- You don’t fight fascism with fascism light. We don’t fight fascism by sacrificing Gaza, trans folks, unhoused people, migrants, etc. We fight fascism by building a strong coalition INCLUDING everyone and fighting for a better world for EVERYONE. There’s no other way
