Presents for everyone when #DoctorWho comes down the time corridor chimney.

A megabyte modem? It’s just what I always wanted!
Doctor Who – The Trial of a Time Lord
The #ChristmasWho conceived as A Christmas Carol
Past, present, future
Mighty cathedral spires
The Doctor is dragged back to a long family gathering

[Spoiler]

And for one of the most Christmassy Doctors—
His own Ghost of Christmas Future turns Scrooge

OTD 1977 Secret Army – Good Friday
Superb TV
Terrific actors
Morally challenging
Cruelly funny
Shocking
For me, best of Season One
You can hear me guesting for it on the brilliant @secretarmypod.bsky.social
“Deny it again.”

What could be more seasonal?
(well, we’ve just watched Wake Up Dead Man)

OTD 1963: #DoctorWho The Firemaker
Finale of An Unearthly Child, the very first DW story
The Doctor invents courtroom drama *and* Columbo in a terrific scene
Already meta, with in-story special effects designed to scare an audience
And it all ends with fire—
Before cliffhanger into greater danger…!

OTD 1988: Doctor Who – The Greatest Show In The Galaxy
Always.
While *this* story will end with the Doctor – still The Firemaker – in one of his coolest (and hottest) moments.

OTD 1976: The New Avengers – Faces
Probably my favourite of The Avengers doppelgänger episodes, this pushes doubles as far as they can go, threatening yet very funny, with Joanna Lumley at her best (in brilliantly terrible wig).
An unusually warm, familiar, Avengersy New Avengers too.

I get that the BBC is terrified at the moment over the Panorama/Trump thing and is keen to be performatively "even-handed," but sticking Robin Ince in the ribs for the high crime of believing that maybe kindness and tolerance aren't such bad things is a hell of a line to draw.
Robin Ince reveals to last night’s audience at a recording of Infinite Monkey Cage that the BBC has forced him to resign over his support of trans people

It gets lost in all of this nonsense every time, but it is worth pointing out that it's not illegal to use any toilet you like. Toilets aren't legally restricted places and never have been, for very obvious reasons. This whole thing is based on an absurd fiction about who can and can't go where.
It's not illegal to use the right toilets and no one should adhere to Mary-Ann Stephenson's headmistressly call to "follow rules" that serve no good purpose, breach the UK's human rights obligations, will be bad for all women, and debase trans dignity. Make her appoint her sodding toilet police.

This is my favourite thing I've learned in the whole of today
Learned today that “Galápagos” comes from a Spanish word for tortoise, meaning that “Galápagos Tortoise” is,

in fact,

a tortology

I first saw The Three Faces in The Five Faces, and was spellbound:
Omega’s grief was one of the most heartrending things I’d ever (not) seen – beyond fairytale, beyond legend, through the Black Hole to existential crisis for pre-teens and one of Doctor Who’s great tragedies.

Doctor Who – The Three Doctors
A joyous visitation by the Doctors of Past, Present and Further Past
A #ChristmasWho party where all the family gets together – and gets on as well as families do – for a big celebration. With jelly.
Other help me, I love this. Still my favourite multi-Doctor story.

Little me: having to queue round the block (literal blockbuster) 3 separate times before we got to see Star Wars. 2nd time the doors were heartbreakingly closed in our faces as the people in front of us got the last tickets.

Raising the always fun question: What are your most memorable theater-going experiences?

Mine also include The Matrix, Blair Witch, and being way too stoned in Belgium when Fellowship of the Ring was sold out so we sat in the back row for Mulholland Drive instead.
It was hands-down one of the most memorable theater-going experiences I can remember, a collective 30-minute butt-clench/armrest-grab for the final climb. And we knew he lived! Wild.

It's only a tiny thing in this, but Peter Serafinowicz isn't his "own brother-in-law", he's his *ex* brother-in-law, and part of Glinner's awfulness is how he seems unwilling to accept that his wife is no longer his wife. It's scary, frankly.
Graham Linehan has such little self-awareness he *really* doesn’t understand how totally unhinged he seems in his ‘woe is me’ batshit crazy ranting! 😬

He’s the ‘cautionary tale’ of what obsessive ‘gender critical’ transphobia leads to: no friends, no life, and spaghetti carbonara for one!

For the record, Robin Ince is a superb comedian, an absolute mensch, a remarkable thinker and the kindest human you’ll ever meet. And the BBC is a genuinely great and globally unique institution that needs to stop being afraid. I think that’s where most of its faults and issues stem from.

It is obscene that Ince has been forced out of his non-news, non-politics-focused role at the BBC for opinions like "trans people should not be eliminated". Fucking monstrous.
Very sad that I felt I had no choice but to resign from The Infinite Monkey Cage - a victory for the transphobes and other bigots - I did it because so much of the media has chosen to believe the kind and empathetic people are a fiction - they are real and so often unrepresented.
