Only the hard of thinking won’t get the poignancy of the Nobel Committee’s choice. Clue - something to do with her “tireless work promoting the democratic rights for the people...” Americans need to ensure their behaviour honours the aspirations of their founders.

Those are real cool. I'm jealous! (My favourite museum is the Pitt Rivers where there are cases and drawers full of 'curiosities' that you can open to peer at their contents! Like a giant, well, .. cabinet of curiosities!)

These are beliefs.

Please stop defending them as universal truths.

* That humans are strictly male or female with no overlap

* That gender is derived from ‘sex’ alone

* That sex is defined by just one biological indicator

* That sex cannot be changed

Snuck into Portland. It's as terrible as you can imagine. Crows scavenge the landscape. People working on crochet projects at bus stops. Depressingly little in the way of Halloween decorations.

Hurting poor people in red states is not hurting just MAGA- this kind of smug analysis helps no one and is a huge reason why Democrats don’t win in the South.
Major racial and ethnic groups in Alabama also experience higher rates of poverty compared to poverty nationally. Among white residents, 11% live in poverty compared with 9% nationally. Among Black residents, one quarter live in poverty compared with 21% nationally. Among Latinx residents, one quarter live in poverty compared with 17% nationally, an 8-point variance.

It’s a "crisis" when immigrants "take jobs away", but "innovation" when machines do. Funny.

80 years separate these photos, of 2 staving kids.

Same shit, different religion.

If you're taking sides, you're on the wrong side.

It's gone beyond stupid religions.

They're starving kids.

It's 2025.

I have a cartoon in the current Private Eye
Cartoon. Two people standing on a stage looking at a third person who is jumping down through a trap door. In the foreground we see the backs of the audience’s heads. One standing people observes “It’s just a stage he’s going through”

If your 'business' model depends on stealing from people, you aren't running a business, you're running a criminal enterprise.

Also, .. wtf are their investors smoking?

Our media lets us down badly :

Labours accomplishments - rarely mentioned

Nigel Farage’s house - dropped/ignored

Nathan Gill’s admission of working for Russia - zilch

Russia/Iran funding Reform/Farage - silence

Instead they spread lies on the Budget/MPs/anything to discredit Labour

Why????

How is this repeatedly made into a policy issue - by *all* parties - when the blunt fact of the matter is that grown adults who are obliged to pay for their own education, and relentlessly pursued to repay their loans, should be able to study whatever the fuck they want.

I feel like this photo of masked, armed men pepper spraying a pastor protecting his community is going to be a defining picture of this moment in America for a long, long time.

I mean, I know people throw away money on all sorts of ridiculous things, but nobody is going to buy something that says 'Powered by Grok' on it, surely?

"We will introduce a digital ID within this Parliament to help tackle illegal migration, make accessing government services easier, and enable wider efficiencies.".

But people don't believe it will do those things! The public haven't asked for this.

Restore trust? How about listening?

You’re missing the key point that the key threat actor in this endeavour is UKG itself. Even the act of implementation undermines trust because your party is bigoted / discriminatory / authoritarian and completely not to be trusted with something like this

MI6 insiders slam Palestine Action ban as 'distraction' from real counter-terrorism

It seems everyone with any expertise on terrorism, including MI6, was against the Palestine Action ban - yet Labour proceeded anyway

The thing is: lots of these “achievements” haven’t actually happened yet. They’re just announcements. And another set are either continuations of longstanding Tory policy (fuel duty freeze), or else quite stodgy macroeconomic stuff

Labour likes to say it’s a comms problem. It’s a substance problem.

From Peter Kellner's latest substack:

Of 560 Labour voters present and recent past (switched since '24), *not one* said any of the following when asked about gov's best achievements

Some obv will be conscious of these things, but Labour still has a big problem, he writes: "voters aren’t hearing"
