As TX heads into what may be the biggest ice storm of the year, let’s get one thing straight before the disinfo starts.

Solar and wind energy operate reliably in far colder places.

The real issue is simple: large parts of the grid are not appropriately winterized. When storms come, they fail.

People are being seriously weird about He Man.

Like, why are you attacking J Michael Strazynski, who is an absolute gem?

I know “let people enjoy things” is considered cringe…but try to at least not be a dick when there are so much bigger problems.

For people asking “why isn’t there a general strike?” earnestly, and not just to be a judgmental prick
Congress passed the Taft-Hartley Act in 1947 (over Truman's veto) to make general strikes so incredibly difficult to organize that there hasn't been one since.

That there is a general strike happening in a major US city on such short notice is nothing short of a miracle.
National media should really be covering the fact thay every major school, museum, and arts institution in the Twin Cities, and hundreds of local businesses are closed tomorrow to protest federal occupation.

Nothing like this at this scale has happened anywhere in America anytime in living memory.

And the boys (who weren't born yet or were about *three*) who missed the *original* He-Man room, run by the fabulous Art Nadel, would have been HORRIFIED by how female-friendly/feminist the original writing team was. (I should know. My office was down the hall. I drew the first map of Eternia.) 😏
all the dudes bitching about "woke He-Man" should watch the woke He-Man we already got like three year ago, aka the animated Kevin Smith Netflix one about A) the crushing emotional toll that toxic masculinity takes on Adam and B) a squadron of absolutely jacked ladies dominating the whole plot

It’s not so much that Trump & co don’t think slavery was important, they want to remove this history precisely *because* of how important it was. They don’t want people to learn about slavery because then people would understand how it continues to shape the landscape of inequality in America today.
Signs about the history of slavery in the U.S. and the 9 people George Washington enslaved are being removed right now at the President’s House Site in Philadelphia, across from Independence Hall, months after the Trump administration threatend to do so.

How far we have not come in 250 years.

Reminder that the trades are really just mouthpieces for the major studios, and the studios were petrified that SINNERS being a success would mean other artists might follow Coogler’s lead and negotiate ownership of their own work.
Remember when variety downplayed Sinners' opening weekend box office, implying it might not make back its money? It has made $370 million since, and now has garnered more Oscar nominations than any movie, ever

Can anyone point me to a single serious study or news report which offers unambiguous evidence that genAI/LLMs have contributed anything non-harmfully useful, anything that has contributed to actual human flourishing and the common good? Anything that has actually “enhanced” educational outcomes?

Seriously, @people.com has been meeting the moment better than 90% of publications with direct reporting and crystal clear headlines.

This is a good way for the low-information voters who are usually detached from the news cycle to get turned around.

literally the only functioning part of the us government nowadays is a shitpost account on a niche microblogging platform
Flashlights (not candles). Smoke/carbon monoxide alarms. Knowing where the vents to your home are so you can clear them of snow. Do it all. We're being given so much time with this storm.

One of the reasons I am so insistent that everyone remember that only 22% of the US population voted for Trump is that the Christian Nationalists want the myth of a mandate in circulation.

We need to reject it. They never had a mandate, and their coalition is shrinking.
The new NYT poll finds Trump 17 points underwater on immigration, and the nonwhite and young voters who went to Trump in 2024 have snapped back to Dems

It's almost as if 2024 might not have represented a seismic cultural realignment on immigration after all, despite 1,000 NYT op eds to the contrary

RFK Jr. appointee Kirk Milhoan has just clearly stated, out loud, that he wants to experiment on the people of the United States by seeing what happens as vaccination coverage plummets and infectious diseases spread.
