And Michael Bay blessedly realized that you can also get away with shit-tons of on-screen gore as long as it happens to robots.

Bay's Optimus Prime is a straight-up slasher villain with how he kills (robot) dudes.

This is SO influential, it showed up in the animated ONE movie.

Fuckin' Marvel's MULTIVERSE OF MADNESS was PG-13 and a person gets pretty obviously bifurcated in half and another gets their head imploded.

And that's why we love Sam Raimi.

PREDATOR BADLANDS being PG-13 means not a whole lot when you remember the Bay TRANSFORMER films are also PG-13. You can get away with a helluva lot when you aren't killing people onscreen.

Also, this pretty much only applies to domestic/American audiences.

Overseas audiences/China is still pretty happy to eat our movie garbage, and they spend more money than we do. So it's not like our opinions matter. Chinese money looks as good on the balance sheet as American money.

But they just ain't gonna see Good Shit unless they recognize the IP.

The best I settle for is making sure they get MY money when they deserve it, and that I try to convince the people who trust my word to give them their money too.
