The themes, plots, and characters of Beowulf and Gilgamesh are far more compelling, both read and recited, than the Iliad or the Odyssey to a modern audience. They should be the go-to high school texts to illustrate the importance of oral tradition and the format of the epic.

ICE is all over the city and burbs today, including Waukegan. Multiple reports on social media from people who have found empty work vans and are trying to locate family of their owners. This is a near daily occurrence now.

Did people really memorize phone numbers before cell phones, or is that just a movie thing? 2? Questions I was watching some old shows from the 90s and noticed people would just dial numbers from memory - like they'd call their friends or family without looking anything up. Made me wonder if that was actually normal back then? Did people genuinely have all their important numbers memorized, or did most folks keep a little address book or written list nearby?

Numbers of braces I require in order to water the plants: 20. 17 for the hands (the silver ones that stay on 24/7), SI belt, wrist brace, ankle support.

If we're counting assistive devices in general, there's my glasses and *sigh* my new prescription orthopedic slippers.
