Here's a megathread of the Kestrel and Scar stories, which will be updated as and when.

Follow the wandering rogues as they roam the Indies in search of adventure and fortune.

And that, distinguished guests, is why I fucking hate managers.

It looks like blue sky is dying because of management decisions... unless we can put on the best talent show that this town has ever seen

From time to time. If they're in good coin and actually have a place to spend it.

Kestrel's cooking is getting better. The last meal he made gave them both the trots for only one day.

...that's a new record.
skeffington.bsky.social
#AwesomeCharacters I suppose there's Christmas, but it would likely be geared more towards gatherings than gifts, and depends on the port and the denomination of the controlling state.

Kestrel and Scar would enjoy some decent food and rum.

Tell me more about your #AwesomeCharacters

Let's talk about gifts!🎁

Are there gift giving occasions in your world? If so, is your character easy to buy for?

What do they like to get? (Items, experiences, other?)

Do they give good gifts to others?

Try and sleep in, play some Uncharted 4, and run a TTRPG session.

Oh gods...so many in The Bayfalls.

The first one who comes to mind is Gerald Riviera, a "kinda witchy" adventurer skilled in both sword and sorcery...who's also a massive coward.

Think a mash-up of Geralt and Rincewind.

Scar was sold off from his parents at an early age and spent most of his life in servitude. Like Kestrel, he also despises authority, but finds that many who live outside the law are no better.

Beneath his "strong silent type" persona is a feeling of hopelessness.
skeffington.bsky.social
#PlotTober For Kestrel, he hates authority because his father put him under academic pressure from an early age. After a scandal, he was forced to leave home and join the navy.

His thrill-seeking personality is a form of risk-taking behaviour stemming from depression.

10. What are some potential backstory or contextual reasons for your main character(s) having this kind of personality or behaving this way? In other words, what could have caused them to be the person they are at the start of your WIP?

Ah, happy 88th anniversary of the day Oswald Mosley tried to sell fascism to Liverpudlians – and someone concussed him with a brick
A man in a suit stands at a microphone which has been mounted on the roof of a van. There are loudspeakers at his feet, and a building behind him. He has an arm raised, and is flinching as projectiles are hurled at him, because he's a fucking Nazi

#WeeknightWriters It's a mix. For the main characters, it's the latter.

But for supporting characters it's more often the former.

#WeeknightWriters Hi, I'm Andy. I'm working on the Kestrel and Scar prequel story "Escape from Crab Island" for #FirstDraftFall

Planning has been slow. Mostly hung up on characters I need to include.

#WeeknightWriters #FirstDraftFall Kestrel lives aboard the pirate ship Albatross, on which he serves as first mate under Captain Daniel Bristol.

Scar lives in a camp hidden in the mangroves on Crab Island with the other maroons who'd escaped the plantation, led by Thema.

My second story, The Pirate King, was published on September 19th

I chose that day because it was Talk Like a Pirate Day. Despite some...complications.

#PlotTober Kestrel is suave and charismatic, but he's also quite brash and impulsive.

Scar has an aura of menace and doesn't talk much, but he's also assessing the situation. He's a bit more level headed, but can be too cautious at times. He's hard to read, but can be caring.

Kestrel was the son of a physician in St Ives, pressured to follow in his father's footsteps but more interested in hedonism than study.

Scar was born to slaves in Antigua and sold off from them at an early age. He was raised in servitude and looking for an out.

#PlotTober Well, it's hard for Kestrel and Scar to pursue their goals when they're in survival mode. Doubly so when they're outlaws.

Aye. I never really played it myself, but my brother played it a lot.

(Despite being big on TTRPGs, I'm not a fan of RPGs as a video game genre)
