"Reporter: Do any of you have a favorite animal?

Child: My favorite one is a gold snake that can move. It has gold eyes, and it has a super-duper tail…

Reporter: Mr. Mamdani, the second question for you.

Mamdani: Yes. It’s also the golden snake."

This is a simple, faithful prayer. Unfortunately, in these times, it is also an act of courage. This is what leadership looks like.
wow -- with Trump standing behind him, a man (not sure who he is) offers this prayer: "We pray that he would be mindful of the poor and that he would be invested in the alleviation of suffering happening in the families preparing to bury their loved ones in Minneapolis."

How to Attend a Public Meeting
Highlighting the speaker who stood in front of the Surprise mayor and told him to consider what the Mayor of Ohrdruf must’ve thought before he died by suicide: “He might have thought ‘how is this my fault I had no jurisdiction over this’ maybe he said ‘this site was not subject to local zoning.’”

This thread is a really important read.

The reason why Bannon and Epstein and Thiel and their friends wanted to destroy the world was so they could run amok with their own depraved eugenicist aims without accountability.

It’s all sociopathic narcissism, all the way down.
There was no mastermind or grand scheme, but there was a successful effort by wealthy men, including Epstein, to destroy a status quo that they feared was trending towards greater accountability.

I genuinely have no idea how to convey this to the American people, but I think the biggest impediment to any kind of immigration reform is that people are convinced that "legal" and "illegal" are immutable, intrinsic categories instead of a rapidly-shifting arbitrary constellation of regulations.

Waller is right. Fed should keep ratcheting down rates, not because a corrupt President is trying to coerce them, but because the economy needs it. Labor market weakness is real.
Waller: "...the labor market remains weak. ...last year's data will be revised downward soon to likely show that there was virtually no growth in payroll employment in 2025. Zero. Zip. Nada. Let this sink in for a moment..."

I wrote this song on Saturday, recorded it yesterday and released it to you today in response to the state terror being visited on the city of Minneapolis. It’s dedicated to the people of Minneapolis, our innocent immigrant neighbors and in memory of Alex Pretti and Renee Good.

Ian Austin, an Army veteran, was arrested for protesting ICE in Minneapolis. But he’s continued protesting. Senior reporter @julialurie.bsky.social spoke to him.

“When they say, ‘Why would you be out here?’ How the fuck could I not be out here?” he says. “My nation is under attack."

The ESPNification of once-respected news outlets. It’s just wannabe podcast hosts all the way down.
This is utterly appalling

America needs more skilled journalists like the ones she’s laying off. We have plenty of paid commentators
NEWS: After a rocky start, Bari Weiss plans to announce staff cuts and the addition of a lot of new paid commentators at CBS News.

My story on Weiss's efforts to remake CBS News

Good for him. The only way the violence will stop is if more elected officials / candidates abandon the GOP that has been taken over by MAGA.
Wow: A top GOP candidate for governor in Minnesota just announced that he is dropping out from the race. *And* that he is leaving the Republican Party.

He blamed the GOP's "stated retribution on the citizens of our state."

Chris Madel ends GOP bid for governor, says he can’t support federal ‘retribution’ against Minnesota
His exit comes as some other Republicans have started to distance themselves from the Trump administration’s immigration crackdown in the state.

This man was executed in the street by federal agents because he had the audacity to try to help a woman they had shoved to the ground. Watch the video. Watch it again. This is murder of a citizen by the federal government.
UPDATE: @dropsitenews.com has obtained the very graphic video from the lady in the pink coat, which shows ICE executing yet another person in broad daylight:

Good opportunity to spam the EEOC office with these claims…
Isn't this message from the EEOC blatantly unconstitutional under Trump DOJ guidance? A nice exhibit for any university challenged over targeted recruitment or the like!

"Are you a white male who has experienced discrimination at work based on your race or sex? You may have a claim..."

I fought in Afghanistan as a Marine.

Danes were in Helmand before Marines were.

43 Danes gave the last full measure of devotion because the U.S. asked and we had been attacked.

I’m ashamed this man is the commander in chief. This isn’t how you treat friends who bled with you.
Trump on NATO: "I've always said, will they be there if we ever needed them? That's really the ultimate test. I'm not sure of that. We've never needed them. They'll say they sent some troops to Afghanistan and this or that. And they did. They stayed a little back, off the front lines."

Repeat after me - the institutions of this economy depend on the institutions of this democracy, among which is the rule of law
Jack Smith: "My fear is that we have seen the rule of law function in our country for so long that many of us have come to take it for granted. The rule of law is not self-executing. It depends on our collective commitment to apply it."

Been sayin this for over a year. The market reaction to “Liberation Day” was the only thing that forced the pullback on the insane trade war that Trump unilaterally started. Both business leaders and voters won’t meaningfully rebel until we see a ~25% drop in equities and ~6-7% unemployment levels.
It's hard to actively root for pain in the market but that's where we are.
Nothing is going to change re the corporate enabling and sucking up to Trump until the executives perceive the greater risk is continuing to support this regime.
Ditto Republican pols.

The Boston Globe Test:

This satirical front page imagined a Trump presidency in 2016. Critics (including Trump himself) dismissed it as "alarmist" and "propaganda" at the time.

Do these headlines feel normal today? Even...quaint?

If so: we have grown more accepting of what was once unthinkable.

A competent opposition political party would cut together the footage of what ICE had been doing in the twin cities with Mike Johnson saying "ICE is doing what ICE is designed to do" and have it in ads all across the country
Mike Johnson comes out against additional guardrails on ICE as Democrats call for it.

“I think there's a lot of Democrats playing games right now with national security and with law enforcement. And I think it's dangerous. Ice is doing what ice is designed to do by its very name.”
