In case you're wondering why you should care about the RAM hoarding by OpenAI causing all prices to spike to the moon, most consumer electronics contain memory, and prices are likely to go up very soon. If the AI bubble doesn't burst, analysts are saying that this won't be resolved until 2027-2028.
Global Memory Crunch Could Drive Up the Price of Your Next Phone by $70
It's not just PCs. IDC warns that the average selling prices for phones, especially lower-end and midrange devices, are expected to jump this quarter and into 2026.

yes, and the three globally largest ram manufacturers have their production capacity entirely sold out through early 2027 due to AI/datacenter/smartphone (per Dell)

Micron just quit the consumer ram business entirely. Only 2/3rds of the largest ram manufs now make ram for consumer applications
Important to note that the reason RAM is more expensive isn't because OpenAI is ransacking store shelves and buying all the retail stock.

They aren't using those. Instead "AI" companies dumped an insane amount of money on RAM manufacturers to tie up their production lines with parts "AI" needs.
