Figured I should make a thread collecting my doily posts.

These are all knit by me, mostly from designs by Herbert Niebling, a prolific designer from the early 20th century.

Do yall wanna hear a crazy Thanksgiving story? I went to this lady’s restaurant, helped her take a bunch of trash to the dump, and ended up getting arrested for littering. But it actually kept me from getting sent overseas to die in a pointless war.

AND supporting your local library is super important! If you actually DO want books to be available to everyone, the library *already exists* and is staffed by the people who are deep in the trenches of fighting censorship! Supporting the library is doing actual good for your community!
TAPS SCREEN

For like the zillionth time: Libraries are FREE for you, but WE still get compensated for our work!!
Just saw someone claim that authors who want to be paid for their work are "class traitors" because we "only let the wealthy" read our books, and I think I need to go into the woods to scream into the night for a bit.

It's $5, not your first-born child! I need that $5 for health insurance!

I’m just going to block anyone attempting to justify or excuse pirating books. Times are hard, yes, but absolutely NO ONE needs to steal books. Libraries exist. There are umpteen works legitimately in the public domain. You don’t need to take income from authors trying to scrape a living.

This is how it should be. Anyone downloading romance from a pirate site should be actively terrified of getting a massive amount of trauma delivered straight to the heart.

YOU WHAT
There was a brief but weird trend at my high school of girls wearing lizards as earrings. Like. Live, unharmed, wild lizards. You just catch one and pick it up and wave a finger a bit and then hold it to your earlobe and they’ll bite and dangle all day. I do not recommend this but. it was a thing
The alligator lizard promptly bit the shit out of my finger.

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

9/ This time, LaBore went to the church’s preacher, Daryl Bruckelmyer.

According to her notes, Bruckelmyer said the church encourages abuse victims to go to police, but he told her he believed it was “on them to do that.”

2/ Clint Massie’s behavior was an open secret in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church community of Duluth, Minnesota. Church leaders even sent him to a sex offender specialist.

But none of the preachers reported him to the police.

In Minnesota, leaders of an Old Apostolic Lutheran Church community enabled a child abuser by telling his victims that once the sins were “washed away in the blood of reconciliation,” they could never...

NC is only a red state through *extensive* gerrymandering, and the left is built different down here

we don't play nice because we can't fucking afford to

the people of NC are *fed up* with this shit, and ICE just walked right into the middle of it and thought they'd get a hero's welcome

fuck ICE

people here are NOT having this shit, and I have never been so proud of being a lifelong North Carolinian

This is a really interesting article about a horrifying distortion of sign language happening in the UK, and which its creators are now trying to export to other countries and their sign languages

Learn actual sign languages from Deaf people, not from hearing people making their own weird versions!

yup, this is a point I keep making - people keep being like 'if we provide better parental and family support it will raise birthrates' and it just doesn't! nor do coercive methods or propaganda, China's biggest single-year fall came when they were pushing natalist stuff hardest.
I've talked about this before, but in Ireland our biggest sustained bump in birthrates since the 70s came in the wake of the Great Recession, with another smaller one in 2020.

The dynamics governing falling TFRs are well understood, but the causes of the reverse are beyond rational comprehension.

The #ArtAdventCalendar is one of my favourite hashtags--beautiful, creative, rich, diverse!

Though I participated for several years on the former socials, this will be my first go at it on Bluesky. Mostly my photography; sketches and watercolour if I'm feeling particularly brave.

Can't wait!
