Not kidding when I say they should fund the free buses by actually enforcing driving and parking rules. Walk around any neighborhood of NYC for an hour and you will witness ~30 ticketable offenses. Everyone will get around faster if people follow the rules. Iron-fist it. Cameras on every stoplight.

Don’t the moon look good, mama, shining through the trees
Don’t the brakeman look good mama, flagging down the double E
Don’t the sun look good going down over the sea?
Aww don’t my gal look fine when she’s comin’ after me.
The screen door slams, Mary's dress sways
Like a vision she dances across the porch as the radio plays
Roy Orbison's singing for the lonely
Hey, that's me and I want you only
Don't turn me home again
I just can't face myself alone again

This is exactly why this piece is so important. The national conversation has largely flattened the effects of the VRA -- and it's potential demise -- to which party controls Congress. There's so much more to the VRA than that, and so much more on the line
I, for one, have only really thought about the VRA through the prism of federal elections, not local elections.

But this well-reported piece reminds us that ending the VRA will have an impact on ALL levels of representative government.

The Supreme Court may further erode the Voting Rights Act in an upcoming decision. Beyond affecting Congress, that would reverberate across local governments nationwide.

I've had a missile blow up next to my airplane, been shot at dozens of times by anti-aircraft fire, and launched into orbit — all for my country. I never thought I'd see a President call for my execution.

It's embarrassing to hold this hearing w/o anyone from Census Bureau or GAO (which regularly analyzes CB policies & practices) or any other experts (other than @aaaj-aajc.bsky.social) to actually explain how the Bureau conducts the decennial count & publishes the data. cc @hansilowang.bsky.social
The House Judiciary Subcommittee on the Constitution and Limited Government is holding a hearing on why census miscounts hurt American citizens.

Make no mistake, the fundamental purpose of the Census is not to count just Americans, but every individual living in the U.S.

We need to build some real social stigma around being afraid of cities. You don't have to like them or live there, but a politics built this strongly around watching TV and going "ewww" is embarrassing, and people should be embarrassed by it. It's like "fear of werewolves" being your top issue.
