Could’ve been, it was my first “viral hit” I guess? Became the biggest video ever on my channel in a month or two. I was more a slow burn kinda channel up to that point. And not overtly negative, it was an awkward moment but I don’t regret that video at all.

Don’t forget the worst two Castlevania games, Adventure and Haunted Castle, we both remade by M2. And you could argue this is most of @nightdivestudios.bsky.social’s entire catalog!

But it is a rare thing to remake a game that needed a remake purely on quality, I feel you.

I feel you, but Terrifier is so clearly tongue-in-cheek splatterpunk though, right? Art is nasty but that’s the point, extreme camp, splatter for its own sake.

If Death from Final Destination was a character you could cosplay as and market, he would’ve been everywhere too.

Yeah the original seemed like a team that couldn’t say “no” to ambition and ideas. This feels measured and focused, maybe just a more seasoned team.

My memory of things (8 years ago now) is I was one of the first to really call YL a bad game. And I was roasted in my comments for it haha! But I watched in the comments over the years swing to agreeing with me. So I suspect YL was overrated at launch.

I think that could be a fair take. For me, I say “good maybe even great” compared to N64 era platformers.

But in the modern climate with DK Bananza, Astrobot, and so many indies I’m can’t say how it stack because I haven’t played most of those, I don’t keep up on platformers anymore.

I’m still early into Yooka-Replaylee but…

They did it!

Immediately - controls better, looks better, sounds better, paced SO MUCH better, and funnier. And I say this as someone who still does not like the original Yooka-Laylee. But Replaylee so far is good, maybe even great!

My memory is I’d rented worse things from Blockbuster, but I didn’t ever see fit to buy either game in all my years thrifting retro games in the 2000’s.

That’s where I was coming from, they weren’t great games but there was so much worse on SNES and Genesis. And maybe it was just short-lived in the early youtube days, but the whole Bubsy series was often slandered and that never sat right with me.

Was Bubsy really that hyped at the time? There were so many back then. I rented it, thought it was alright but never bought it. Played both games again, I think SNES, for research or a possible review and wasn’t too impressed but they weren't awful like people used to think.

Hot take - Bubsy is fine. The 3D game retroactively made the series a meme but the pervious two games were fine. Nothing amazing but Bubsy was always just another 90’s mascot platformer that was fine.
