One of the things that puts people - especially with wheelchairs, mobility devices or buggies - off using the footpath and so can seriously restrict their freedom of movement is drivers parking in pedestrians spaces. Another is the pavement damage caused by those drivers. Pavement parking disables.
To anybody who wants to say there was nobody on the footpath, when I was going back, another motorist drove fowards onto the footpath while 3 old people were walking out from one of the restaurants.

I wasn't going to say anything to any of them parking there but after that I got them to move off.
"Cars don't drive on footpaths"

No, motorists do and 99% of the time I see them doing so there's somewhere else they can park within 30 seconds to a minute or so that's legal, safer and doesn't cause damage to footpaths:

What amazes me is how these « élites » manage to attend so many dinner parties, get to all the secret meetings at the volcano lair and still manage to subvert everything right wing governments want to do and yet keep it all secret from everyone except that annoying guy in the pub who tells everyone.
Goodwin’s semi-conspiracist obsession with dinner parties is a real psychological tic. He imagines that all the fancy “elites” are moving from dinner to dinner talking trash about him (I would actually enjoy that though)
You dont win 'em all! Reform's Matt Goodwin in Sunday Times: 'Most .. people criticising me are nerds. The last thing I want is to be at some dinner party table with Nick Robinson & Mary Beard. I'd rather shoot myself in the head'. Hang on, I'm not THAT bad!Nerds sometimes have a (thoughtful!) point.

This is unhinged regardless. But if it was an environmentalist doing something even half as destructive, it'd be all over the place:
This is the first time I’ve read details about a bomb that was set off in residential London street, destroying cars and sending shrapnel into kids’ bedrooms.

Young people are considered vulnerable online, but the actual radicalisation of old generations is given a free pass by the press.

I’m sure the Government will do everything possible to tackle the root causes and promote international cooperation to address the climate emergency*

*short of mildly inconveniencing drivers, farmers, Michael O’Leary, US tech giants, oil companies or motor manufacturers, of course.
We cannot build our way out of this problem, difficult decisions will need to be made in relation to abandoning properties and land to allow for flooding. We must also stop this obsession with draining agriculture land so quickly.

A good science teacher encourages us to be wrong and then figure things out as the evidence rolls in. The "gotcha!" mentality shown in movies and pop culture are wrong, and not in a good (learning experience) way

Right now, maybe. Tomorrow it’s our choice.

We need to learn how to defend ourselves.
Europe is incapable of defending itself without America, NATO chief Mark Rutte said, speaking just days after Donald Trump's repeated threats to seize Greenland pushed the alliance to the brink of collapse.

There’s an excellent @originstorypodcast.bsky.social about this exact point.

Got me to download the audio book and Patrick Hamilton makes Leonard Cohen sound like a ray of cheerful sunshine.

(If it’s not obvious I thought it was great and I think Leonard Cohen’s great too. I make both seem happy)
Small thing, but I hate how "gaslighting" has infected our discourse. You shouldn't have to know the plot of an 80-year old movie to figure out that someone is saying lying, deceiving, or manipulating.

There’s a pattern here: howls of outrage at the proposal, grumbling, legal challenges and then after implementation grudging acceptance. Two years on nobody can imagine it any other way. As for those worried about car-dépendent elderly people, what about elderly non-drivers?
This is what we’re dealing with. “When will motorists get something?” 😂

The German response to this is « Man ist nicht aus Zucker gemacht » (we are not made of sugar). Germany has a climate every bit as wet as Ireland (or England) and gets a lot colder too.
Our anti-cycling trolls are still obsessed with the rain...

We love to talk about the weather here, but I get the feeling the trolls don't leave their homes much... come to think of it... Maybe it's Ombrophobia (an intense, irrational fear of the rain)? Can it be induced by car dependency?
'No one cycles in rain/winter' - strangely not something usual anti-cycling suspects say in London these days. 08:52, heavy rain, C6 shot from Holborn Viaduct. More cycles than track can cope with & than motor vehicles. Yet we still are struggling to get enough capacity. @londoncycling.bsky.social
