Ultimately, it was always a fight about normalization and de-normalization. What "woke" represents to the type of folks who signed that Harper's letter (and are in the Epstein files) is an effort to normalize disrespecting bigoted nonsense, and de-normalize debate-as-elite-sport.
One of the most depressing things about trying to sound the alarm on the "Gender Critical" movement back when it was gaining traction, was that one of the main transphobic activists of the 2010s was a woman who had groomed a minor under her care, and everyone just stuffed their fingers in their ears
I’m not allowed to safely use a public bathroom because a literal island of pedophiles said trans people might be sketchy.

Honestly I'm more scathing on this.
To the kinds of abusers who support these movements, the fact that they are lead by people who are known to have committed abuse is a feature.

Some time back I took a firm stance against playing, streaming, recommending, or otherwise promoting games featuring microtransactions/lootboxes, and very deliberately used the term "predatory monetization" to describe these practices, but never imagined I was pushing back on Epstein by doing so.

It's because standard newspaper style is that it's only antisemitism if it comes from the left, and in particular from people who view Palestinians as human.
There's a much shorter word to use for "mocked Jewish faith," and "made disparaging remarks" about an Orthodox Jew. I wonder why they're not using a term that means this very specific thing.
