I grew up with my dad's old pile of Eagle comics, so Dan Dare was a connection to British culture while moving around the world. Granted, it was a culture from thirty years before my birth, and some parts were a bit...erm...dated, but always with a positive message.

Parliament has all kinds of daft rules for not being able to describe things accurately. You can't call another MP "drunk", but you can say they were "tired and emotional". That's become a universally-recognised euphemism, so perhaps one's needed for racists.
