Science, skepticism, politics, tennis, crosswords, and food.
This is exactly it. LLMs are solving complex, unsolved math problems in “creative” ways.

This is clearly not just text prediction. It’s also not conscious thought in the human sense.

It’s some emergent phenomenon we don’t understand. That’s extremely weird and genuinely exciting!
Incidentally, I think reasonable people can still differ about whether this counts as thinking or understanding, but frankly either possibility is weird. Either a machine can think and reason really well, or you can somehow solve very hard open math problems without thinking/reasoning/understanding.

It’s at 0:33, and he didn’t even react so I can only assume this is a regular occurrence

Just to be clear, Trump shits himself on a regular basis and it’s so gross and stinky that everyone has to run away

What do you MEAN the president audibly SHIT himself live on camera and they immediately cancelled the press conference and rushed everyone out of the room like it's a fire drill, and it happened two days ago, and I'm just hearing about it NOW?

Talking to lots of folks across various professions using Claude Code, it is genuinely surprising, even to me, how much of a leap they have seen in the ability of LLMs to do real work in the last six weeks.

I know people on this site are sometimes skeptical of AI, but worth paying attention to.

It’s hard to overstate how freakish it is for law enforcement who just shot someone to be shuffled off to other assignments with no investigative period at all.
BASH: Are they agents who were involved still on the job?

Putin pioneered this. No opposition is legitimate. Regular, decent, “ordinary” people cannot possibly be against us because only we represent “the real people.”

Tell-tale sign of authoritarianism.

an administration staffed to the top with degenerate liars
Noem lies shamelessly: "An individual approached order Patrol officers with a 9mm semi-automatic gun. The officers attempted to disarm this individual, but the armed suspect reacted violently. This looks like a situation where an individual arrived to inflict maximum damage and kill law enforcement"

Fuck these people. They attack protesters and then blame them for taking the most basic steps to defend themselves.

You don’t have to be in an organized movement to know these steps when violence against them is so common. And if it is organized? Even better.
Bondi: "It's extremely organized. The signs they have are all matching, they're well written. And look at what's happening today. How did these people go out & get gas masks? These protesters. Would you know how to walk out on the street and buy a gas mask? Think about that. We're not gonna have it"

Great thread.

So many doomers on here like “…pfft, yeah, if there’s even gonna BE an election.”

Canceling elections, as Trump has vaguely and disgustingly threatened to do, is virtually impossible in the U.S., purely from a practical standpoint. We’ve got plenty of other problems to worry about!
the question to ask about this is, okay, he wants to cancel the midterms. how does he get the VA state board of elections to cancel the midterms? how does he get the georgia board of elections to do it? how does he convince republican house members to quit their jobs and give up their paychecks?
Trump says a lot of deranged shit, but, per this Reuters article — and the threats of invoking the Insurrection Act in Minnesota this morning — he is very clearly exploring how to cancel the midterms.

The list of things AI can’t do continues to shrink.

There are plenty of valid criticisms of LLMs, but “can’t solve complex problems” is decidedly no longer one of them.
One very familiar pattern in AI and science right now is going from a lot of false starts on hard tasks (there have been near-misses where AI appears to solve an Erdos problem but just finds an old solution no one knew about) to actually doing the thing soon after.

Three Erdos problems in 3 days.
