Yeah, and there’s a lot of ”pro” tools that allow posting across many legacy platforms at once. I wonder what point follow numbers finally don’t matter?

Related, I wonder how changes in follower numbers match ticketing trends, but I doubt the NWSL or teams are really getting into any data science.🤷🏻‍♂️

“In an increasingly unsettled and divided world, it's fundamental to recognise the outstanding contribution of those who work hard to end conflicts and bring people together in a spirit of peace.” — Gianni Infantino, 5 Dec 2025

I’d say we all should harass our favorite teams and the #NWSL itself to get off X for good, but they won’t. Nevermind the whole “supporting women” narrative they keep pushing.

Then again, if all the past transgressions didn’t make people and organizations leave it, they never will.

Journalist Tamerra Griffin was spot on in noting that media rankings of athletes can reflect biases, not just performance (see attached quote from The Athletic Full Time podcast). The conversation was about the NWSL High Impact Player rule, where criteria for HIP designation include media rankings.

We’re putting together a team!

Looking for at least two more content creators to join us on our latest project. Podcast is two shows a week, one updates-and-recap and one picks-and-predictions.

Please let me know if you’re interested, or share this with someone who is! #NWSL

Looks like it’s not just the #NWSL being cheap—how’s the NSL? (via @dreyesceron.bsky.social)

7) Jaedyn Shaw, Gotham FC & USWNT

27 games, 1,189 minutes, 6 goals for the USWNT in 24/25.
47th-most followed Instagram account.

Also: '24 Concacaf W Gold Cup Best XI, '25 NWSL Champion.

To be honest, if the on-field product (and fanbase) wasn’t so damn enjoyable, I’d probably have bailed long ago.

But I guess that’s not really a marketable angle. 🤪

I know she works at the pleasure of the owners, but I swear I’d probably be the most annoying commissioner—basically selling the on-field product in public just as my friends are probably sick of hearing about it from me now. Oh, and focusing on how even on TV, so often it’s *fun* #NWSL

I find Berman’s comments worrisome. Growing the league focuses on hooking the next generation on content and betting rather than getting them to play the game. Does betting actually create fans or just focus attention on the league superficially, as people chance dopamine in the form of parlays?
Here are Berman's comments during the panel.

I never thought I’d be wishing for the days when the league was located at 1556 S. Michigan Ave in Chicago (above a vet clinic.)
Berman wearing a $2.5k jacket, and the NWSL league office dropping millions on an entire floor of a New York building, are the same disease. Fuck this shit

The point at the end, about "connectivity" & sports gambling, came across as a fairly gross and entirely au courant pivot into "our product needs to convert fans into 'related-party' addicts, because we're not confident about the core value of our product & our leadership wants more of your money."

You’re smarter than me today. 🙃

I wonder if in the early days of other sports leagues like the NBA or NFL, they went full finance bro like JB‘s doing here. Apparently I’m wrong thinking it’s simply a nice two hours to be entertained with a good community.

Nah, we gotta stuff in sports betting and fantasy and explosive valuations.

The venn diagram of toxic bro sports fans and people that Berman thinks are worthwhile NWSL fans must be a single circle #NWSL #BermanOut

At this point, I don’t know if this applies to us, her, or anyone else involved? #NWSL

Good points.

I’m worried that she ended by highlighting betting as a way NWSL can engage with a younger, wider audience. 🙄🤑

I don’t need more betting ads in my life and and gambling brings so much toxic fandom.

It seems so cynical to conclude that young fans have no interest in watching games.

That part about breaking her lease, having to re-arrange doctor's appointments, finding somewhere to live while waiting for the moving truck...really puts the "mute" in "mutual." 😑

It’s one thing for a team to decide to part ways with a player, that’s sport, but decorum and respect…

In case anyone's curious what #NWSL commissioner Jessica Berman is up to this week, she's speaking at the World Sports Summit in Dubai, organized and funded by the crown prince of Dubai.
