"well what are the Democrats supposed to do" I don't know! They're supposed to know! I'm not the one who sought and obtained a political position that would require me to know what to do when the ruling party attempts to install the President as a dictator!

best guesses are 14 to 21 million dead. It's arguably the single worst genocide the US has ever perpetrated.

(when a Nazi deliberately murders millions of non white people in the name of eugenics and efficiency, I think it's reasonable to call that a genocide.)

People really need to stop counting the damage done with this ridiculous idea (that was spawned from Twitter’s techbro men culture) in terms of $$$ and start approaching this in terms of the harm it has done globally (e.g. number of deaths due to USAID cuts).

Dollar metrics are meaningless.

Elon Musk’s DOGE never came close to cutting as much money by Sept. 30, when the government closes its books on the fiscal year, as he promised. Because its work has been obscured by crude accounting and White House maneuvers, it’s impossible to know how much DOGE actually did cut from the budget.

“I’m worried about my community… I’m out here in a frog costume to show how ridiculous the notion that we’re violent terrorists is, and showcase how that narrative is wrong…”

Serious Q: is it too late to give this dude the Nobel Peace Prize? 🐸 🏆

I think people also forget that there were civil rights protests for *100 years.* activists protested and lobbied constantly from the end of reconstruction through the 50s and 60s. mostly they were just ignored, beaten, jailed. 1

“From the first children’s march on May 2 [1963], The New York Times published more stories about race in the next two weeks than in the previous year.” — Taylor Branch, “The King Years”

I’m not an advocate and don’t have a dog in these fights, but these sort of ahistorical takes frustrate me.

Turns out protest alone was never what changed things, it was protest *plus media coverage of protests*, which prompted officials to respond to protests, which increased public awareness of protests, etc.

If the protest happens & corporate media simply ignores it ... it's inert.

that johnson is more terrified of seating a duly elected democrat who could force an epstein vote than having the entire government shut down really makes me wonder about that epstein vote tbh

she refused to give them a space in the DNC. meeting with them isn't really engaging with them, imo.

also I don't dislike her. she's okay. I dislike performative sneering at pro Palestinian activists who have been targeted brutally by the state, though.

She risked her career to speak out for children. That speaks to a tremendous "depth of character". Psychologically profiling women you don't know shows an absence

Seeing Ms. Rachel say exactly what needs to be said to Obama is so damn refreshing
Dear President Obama,
I saw in your statement you said "Israeli families" & "the people of Gaza."
Palestinians have families, too.
This kind of language contributes to dehumanization. Dehumanization is part of what caused so many to stay silent as 20,000 children were killed in this genocide.
I've sat with wonderful Palestinian families from Gaza. They look at their children just like we look at ours - with all the love & hope in the world.
Love,
Ms Rachel

Noticing a LOT more support for white men academics who have been threatened by the Trump admin (but who are able to keep working abroad ) than there has ever been for women (of any race), ppl of color, Arabs, or LGBTQ folx whose academic careers were ended entirely by Biden over Gaza

This is exactly what we need. This is it.

"New York City Council member Chi Ossé, a close ally of Zohran Mamdani, is privately discussing a run against House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)"
Scoop: Mamdani ally weighs challenging Hakeem Jeffries
Just talking about a potential campaign could drive a further wedge between Mamdani — the democratic socialist in line to be New York's next mayor — and Rep. Hakeem Jeffries (D-N.Y.)
