One of my favourite posters is The Name Of The Rose that makes it look like a screwball comedy.

RIP Drew Struzan.

We’ve lost Drew Struzan. A modern master, who by all accounts was a humble, sweet, loving, dedicated man. His work influenced culture itself, & we’ll be seeing that influence until the end of the modern world. What a legacy. What a body of work. May he rest well, & may his memory be a blessing.

Raw and brutal as Michael Ancher's depictions of fishermen battling against the elements in Jutland or Skagen can be, he painted their harsh, gritty outdoor life with a rugged dignity. This work from 1888 shows a group on a summer's evening discussing a day's catch.

To me, a live action remake of an animated film is the equivalent of a photographic recreation of an impressionist painting. Not only is it pointless, it fails to understand the artistic value of the original intention. All they are is unnecessary and a waste of time and money.

The creators of ‘K-Pop Demon Hunters’ have dismissed the idea of making a live-action adaptation:

“It’s really hard to imagine these characters in a live-action world. It would feel too grounded. So totally it wouldn’t work for me.”

'Blackwell's Island.' (1911) Edward Hopper was drawn to New York's East River, painting it several times between 1911 and 1935. This picture is his first depiction of Blackwell's Island which sits in the East River between the Manhattan and Queens.

UNTIL IT’S DONE, Ep. 4: Sylvia Rivera

In the 1970s, queer New Yorkers had been pushed to the margins of NYC. Our trans neighbors faced immense cruelty. But in Sylvia Rivera, they found a champion.

As we combat Trump’s politics of darkness, her legacy can light the path forward.

This workshop will initiate with people from Mexico, Latin America and Europe to strengthen the ties of stop motion and collaboration and, in exchange, education will be provided for free for one Mexican / Latinamerican student for the first ten years also.

Guillermo del Toro, Netflix, and Gobelins have teamed to open a stop-motion studio in Paris. The endeavor shares a kindred spirit with Mexico's El Taller del Chucho, also co-founded by del Toro, and will honor stop-motion legend Mark Gustafson.

“Oy, mi estomigo!” I don’t even remember who said it or what episode, I just know it was the Simpsons.

Jenna would make Liz write jokes for her, Liz would write a bunch of feminist material because she’s mad at Jenna and then try to pull it at the last minute because she’s worried for Jenna’s safety. Jenna would ham it up so hard that the Saudis would love it as parody of shrill American women

David Simon, creator of ‘The Wire’, being interviewed by Ari Shapiro (NPR)
SHAPIRO: OK, so you've spent your career creating television without Al, and I could imagine today you thinking, boy, I wish I had had that tool to solve those thorny problems...
SIMON: What?
SHAPIRO: ...Or saying...
SIMON: You imagine that?
SHAPIRO: ...Boy, if that had existed, it would have screwed me over.
SIMON: I don't think Al can remotely challenge what writers do at a fundamentally creative level.
SHAPIRO: But if you're trying to transition from scene five to scene six, and you're stuck with that transition, you could imagine plugging that portion of the script into an Al and say, give me 10 ideas for how to transition this.
SIMON: I'd rather put a gun in my mouth.

"That's the point – the smudge, the rough line, the hesitation - that's what makes my work come alive." - Jim Lee talking about why DC will never use AI storytelling. "AI doesn't dream, feel or make art, it aggregates it."

Happy Book Launch Day to Alan Barillaro and Bunns Rabbit. It's a beautiful and heartfelt read that I've had the privilege to watch come together over the last few years. Can't wait!!! 💜
An elegant hand holds aloft a copy of Bunns Rabbit from the bosom of his local bookstore.
