A Christianity that is known for its cruelty is a Christianity that no longer knows Christ.

I agree with Pritzker, too many people are oblivious to what’s going on. Maybe large protests will wake a few up.

JB Pritzker says NO KINGS, SHOW UP ON 10/18
gregsargent.bsky.social
Finally, Pritzker says more Dems must sound the alarm, though he notes some exceptions (like Chris Murphy).

"I am surprised that more leaders have not stood up," he says.

He urges people to join No Kings protests to let the country know something's wrong. 5/5

Pritzker also says ICE's treatment of peaceful protesters has gotten so bad that Illinois law enforcement has to protect them *from* ICE.

"We’ve got Illinois State Police standing in between ICE and the protesters," he says.

This is the America Miller wants. 4/

Nathaniel Hawthorne predicted the SBC response (or lack thereof) to the SBC abuse crisis, well over a century.

From the ending of "The Scarlet Letter." (Spoilers!)
It is singular, nevertheless, that certain persons, who were spectators of the whole scene, and professed never once to have removed their eyes from the Reverend Mr. Dimmesdale, denied that there was any mark whatever on his breast, more than on a new-born infant’s. Neither, by their report, had his dying words acknowledged, nor even remotely implied, any, the slightest connection, on his part, with the guilt for which Hester Prynne had so long worn the scarlet letter. According to these highly respectable witnesses, the minister, conscious that he was dying,—conscious, also, that the reverence of the multitude placed him already among saints and angels,—had desired, by yielding up his breath in the arms of that fallen woman, to express to the world how utterly nugatory is the choicest of man’s own righteousness. After exhausting life in his efforts for mankind’s spiritual good, he had made the manner of his death a parable, in order to impress on his admirers the mighty and mournful lesson, that, in the view of Infinite Purity, we are sinners all alike. It was to teach them, that the holiest among us has but attained so far above his fellows as to discern[317] more clearly the Mercy which looks down, and repudiate more utterly the phantom of human merit, which would look aspiringly upward. Without disputing a truth so momentous, we must be allowed to consider this version of Mr. Dimmesdale’s story as only an instance of that stubborn fidelity with which a man’s friends—and especially a clergyman’s—will sometimes uphold his character, when proofs, clear as the mid-day sunshine on the scarlet letter, establish him a false and sin-stained creature of the dust.

The winner of the Nobel Peace Prize is everything Trump hates. A woman who stands up to powerful and corrupt men and demands that people have the right to vote in a democracy. Bonus Trump-hate points that she’s Latino.

Congratulations María Corina Machado! #FDT

the administration is laser-focused on making sure Americans don't get clean energy, so Saudi Arabia (Trump's paymaster) has someone to sell their oil to in 10 years when the rest of the world has moved on to solar+batteries
costasamaras.com
Picture how big the Hoover Dam is. An absolute unit. The Hoover Dam has a power capacity of 2 gigawatts (GW).

The solar farm that the Admin just cancelled could have produces 6.2 GW of power. That's more than 3 Hoover Dams.

SCOOP: The Bureau of Land Management says the largest solar project in Nevada — the Esmeralda 7 mega-farm — has been canceled

The news was quietly dropped via a sudden website update with no public word from any of the companies involved or a statement from the agency

Marjorie Taylor Greene: This should not be happening, the shutdown is just going to drive everybody's approval rating that much lower.

Pamela Brown: You're putting the blame on the leadership of your party?

Greene: Absolutely. We control the House. We control the Senate. We have the White House.

“Republicans are the ones who are here for you”? Is that what he said? From her comments I don’t think she believes that. (Nor do I.)

New Yorkers know Attorney General James for who she is: a champion for justice who fights relentlessly for the people. Donald Trump knows her only as an obstacle to his corruption.

My full statement:
New Yorkers know Attorney General James for who she is: a champion for justice who fights relentlessly for the people. Donald Trump knows her only as an obstacle to his corruption.

No one should be surprised that Donald Trump is employing fascist tactics—prosecuting his opponents, weaponizing the federal government, and attacking the very fabric of our democracy. And Trump should not be surprised when millions of Americans stand up to his authoritarianism and his greed.

If Trump wants to leverage baseless charges to visit political retribution on New York’s Attorney General, he’ll have to go through New Yorkers first. The Attorney General has had our back, time and again. We have hers.

Yet another incident that would’ve gotten any other president immediately impeached that is only the 127th worst thing Trump has done in 2025.

You see what he's doing here, right? He's equating brown skinned people with "illegal rabble rouser" who are here to do WHITE PEOPLE harm. Same racist shit as Nazis, the Klan, Christian Nationalists, etc. He's othering people so white people will be fine when the othered ones are murdered.

The thing that makes me the sickest is that these folks don’t even have a shred of compassion. It’s one thing to enforce laws and rules. It’s another to do it gleefully and celebrate the suffering of someone born into poverty and desperation

As a new Democrat, I was thinking today that if I run for President in 2028, I’d tell voters that one of the 1st things I’d do as Prez will be to bulldoze Trump’s gross ballroom. A monstrosity that’ll destroy the character of the people’s house. I’d pledge to bulldoze that fucking ballroom on day 1.

I'm not a political genius, but I'm pretty sure the party that published a 600-page manifesto on how they want to shut down the federal government are the ones who shut down the federal government.

SCOOP — The White House instructed all federal agency leadership on Tuesday to send out a mandatory message to workers blaming the impending potential government shutdown on House Democrats, The Handbasket was first to learn. Absolutely no modifications to the email were permitted.

My story:
Trump mandates all federal agencies send email blaming Dems for potential gov’t shutdown
Workers call the partisan email "a vile slap in the face."

In any other country, if federal agents fired upon journalists when unprovoked — what would we call it?

If federal agents marched down streets demanding papers — what would we say?

Authoritarianism — let’s not pretend it’s something else when it happens in our American cities.

I don't think we'll ever get another sentence which sums up everything the New York Times embodies quite like "Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians".
mattcameron.bsky.social
hey @nytimes.com: there is no counterpoint here. There are no credible legal experts who would EVER say that the US military has any right or authority to blow civilian craft out of the Caribbean and kill their crews from afar without any provocation. There is no other side to this question.
"Some legal experts have called it a crime to summarily kill civilians not directly taking part in hostilities, even if they are believed to be smuggling drugs."
