Everything I learn about Nick Cave falls out of my head 15 minutes later and then I’m back at square one whenever he next becomes relevant to something. It’s very odd.

It just occurred to me that with current google Bella could totally google “adrenaline rush make stronger?” and stand a decent chance of getting the answer Edward is gaslighting her with.

Q for academicsky: I’m working on starting an AAUP advocacy chapter. There are lots of great stories out there about how wins from union chapters (UC!!!) but union isn’t an option for us. Does anyone have achievements from your AAUP advocacy chapters I can share with colleagues in my conversations?

Every morning I look up whether the strike is still going and get disappointed that #Starbucks still hasn’t come to the table to treat their workers fairly, and thus cannot have my business for another day.
Workers in all industries have more in common with each other than the executives making millions. Solidarity with everyone who is not crossing the line or buying Starbucks while we’re on a ULP strike! Special thanks to @Teamsters, for not crossing the picket line and standing with us✊

Really important to stress that the Crown Jewels of the US higher education system were never the Ivies or elite SLACs (other countries have equivalents of these) but the well-funded, large, cheap, and excellently staffed public state university systems bringing high quality education to the masses.
One of the bragging rights that the US ed system had in the 20th century is that we didn't have education tracks. Essentially, any kid could go to a CC or state school & major in whatever they wanted to (obviously an oversimplification). I fear this aspect of the American dream is dying.

Stumbled into a conversation that is absolutely fascinating.
Home Alone makes changes to the Die Hard formula that render it hard for me to enjoy. The McClain character should feel overawed. And in theory having Kevin be a child versus adults achieves that. But the thing is: Kevin is a god. It's not just Tom & Jerry. This is some random punks versus Anansi.
