This is the most insane response to a normal post I've ever seen
It actually leads to El Clasico Presented by Walnart

This is the first installment of what will be a regular feature, tentatively called “For the Record”:

A selective chronicle, a roundup of what I believe deserves our attention – an attempt to bear witness and perhaps create, over time, a record of our extraordinary moment.
Sunday Reading: A Constant Torrent of Authoritarian Arrogance, Corruption, and Complicity

American politics is an exasperating, frenzied, and acutely dangerous mess. Let’s sort through the events of the past week to separate what matters from what does not.

What the far right has figured out is that if they can construct an artificial social environment where they're seen as more numerous, strong, and popular, and their enemies seem few, timid, and dominated, many people will side with them, regardless of what the respective parties are actually saying

i think i would honestly find this whole discourse more tolerable if people simply said what they were actually saying, which is that they think the Democratic Party is too associated with femininity (and secondarily, with black people) and that they want to correct this

it seemed obvious from his comments recently that this was coming

it is pretty funny that Jeffries was so desperate not to endorse Mamdani and then Cuomo ran such a terrible campaign that any other eventual call would have left the stink of a loser on him www.politico.com/news/2025/10...
After a lengthy wait, Jeffries to endorse Mamdani
The powerful Brooklyn Democrat plans to endorse the democratic socialist Friday afternoon.

It’s hard to convey just how much Chicagoans are mobilizing against ICE. Don’t want to downplay the harm, or make it seem like a fair fight. But in neighborhoods across this city, ICE is getting chased by people blowing whistles and shouting. People are running TOWARD ICE to protect their neighbors.

I've been trying to come up with a pithy way of telling people that Trump doesn't care about this country or its traditions so him bulldozing the White House to build a tacky monument to himself really does me a solid.

Under Over Over - West Hampstead

So it's taken a while, but I've finally found a location where you can clearly see London Underground trains traveling over London Overground trains.

The vantage point is at West Hampstead Overground station at the end of the platform.

"Mr. President sir the idea is you're constantly flying around in a big jet filled with your own shit in it. Like human shit. Anyways you're wearing a little crown in your little shitmobile and you're dumping the shit out. I think people will like it."
and another thing: he’s not mad. please don’t put it in the newspaper that he got mad.

They have nothing to charge them with because these are fishermen, and it’s not illegal to survive an unprovoked murder attempt by a foreign military.
Those men are super dangerous drug smuggling terrorists, which is why . . . we are letting them go.

this rocks. when indiana edu killed the student newspaper, Purdue stepped up, printed the forbidden issue, drove it to Bloomington and stocked the boxes.
This is probably somewhat law-centric, but I think that focus on concrete help / community care has always been there, but doesn't translate well online, in part because it always requires context.

The flooding of airports after the Muslim Ban is the exception that proves the rule for me.

One additional thread that I didn't have space to expand on fully: Resistance 2.0 seems to be more focused on acts of community care, like helping neighbors targeted by ICE. That fits into the ongoing conversation about strengthening democracy by creating shared civic spaces...
After 2024, pundits brushed off the Resistance as cringe. I submit: Yes, it was. And cringe is good. Cringe, in fact, will save democracy.
Resistance Is Cringe
But it’s also effective.
