I have a bit in my profile that's an oblique reference to a favourite quote of mine by a favourite author that I don't believe I've ever shared on Bluesky, so here it is in full:

"If the truth were simple, I wouldn't write books. I'd rent billboards."

From the incomparable Matthew Stover.

there’s a large portion of people somehow posting about how this made them more islamiphobic which to me implies they endorse the shooting
So there is already an ai-generated whitewashing campaign to bury the name of the Muslim man, Ahmed al Ahmed, who disarmed one of the Bondi Beach shooters, and replace his identity with a white guy name and that’s why even a thimble of our potable water powering this tech is too fucking much.

i don't think this is even a real statistical anomaly anymore. it seems like there's someone in the crowd at every mass shooting who has been through it before. this doesn't have to be our shared cultural experience.

What conservatives mean when they say they are "under attack for their views" is that they are being accurately understood as the sort of people who hold the sort of views conservatives hold, and that makes them afraid they will be treated the way conservatives treat those whose views they scorn.
The fact is no presenter has ever had to leave the BBC for expressing conservative views, or even explicitly endorsing a right-wing party.

I was complaining about AI captions & just saw a perfect example. A park ranger in this movie said "Take nothing but pictures, leave nothing but footprints, kill nothing but time." which is a VERY common "leave no trace" saying. She had a slight East Asian accent.
Caption? "Peel nothing but time"

Good. It was ALWAYS the only viable path.
California’s growing gray wolf population is a conservation win — but a challenge for ranchers facing livestock losses.

Some are turning to nonlethal deterrents and long-term changes in ranching practices, finding coexistence is the only viable path forward.
Choosing coexistence over conflict: How some California ranchers are adapting to wolves
This is the fourth part of Mongabay’s series on the expanding wolf population in California. Read Part 1,  Part 2 and Part 3. A lone gray wolf (Canis lupus) named OR-7 — then a 2 ½-year-old male —…

His solution? Mandatory national service.

I appreciate that in this episode of SG-1 some guy who's name I forget telling Hammond that repairs are going to take 24 hours, Hammond said he wants it done in half that time, and the guy says, "It doesn't work like that, sir." I just know some writer was pleased with themselves when they wrote it.
