This is why the right is fixated on celebrities' politics, censor libraries, fake NYT bestseller status for their books, and want to dictate school curricula. Cultural production is how values are instilled in large populations

I'm sorry but "Elon Musk was too weird and creepy to go to Epstein Island" is an absolutely insane thing that we now all know and have to price in whenever we talk about the world's richest man

"We can either tax you out of existence or we can launch you into the sun with a trebuchet. Your call!"
The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

1. The new batch of Epstein documents helps illuminate one contemporary controversy: What is Bari Weiss up to at CBS? I think the answer is she is trying to rehabilate the Epstein network as a bulwark of reactionary centrism. Let me explain.

we said all along that they wanted Gawker dead not because we embarrassed a pro wrestler but because the Epstein story is one Gawker was covering a decade before most other people caught up & was just one of many stories exposing powerful people and their misdeeds
Among the batch of newly released emails from Jeffrey Epstein: Epstein telling Peter Thiel he would “gladly share…expenses for the Gawker suit.”

This was sent the day after @rmac.bsky.social and @mattdrange.bsky.social reported in Forbes that Thiel was behind the lawsuit that would bankrupt Gawker

I got a feeling when this is all said and done and all the files have been combed through we're gonna find out the NYT was the biggest cover up paper for the entire Epstein network (and it's influence in govt) and someone is gonna write about that dereliction of duty to the American people someday

not for nothing, but — depending on how it is written — this is why much tighter judicial warrant requirements would be useful. maybe some of this gets through with kavanaugh stop wording, but requiring a judicial warrant for them to make an arrest makes this flat out illegal, both on state and fed

the reason the details are important here is because this is behavior we don’t even tolerate from local police, the violations are illegal and egregious, and they’re being committed daily
drawing their guns, aiming them at someone who hasn’t even committed a traffic offense, forcibly removing her from her vehicle at gunpoint and throwing her into their vehicle for transport were crimes committed before local police even made a phone call, and should be reported as such imo

it’s not necessarily that all these people in the epstein files participated in the raping of girls it’s that none of them cared and if he hadn’t been arrested and died they’d still be out there trying to be his friend

An entire political movement founded on uncovering hidden messages in documents to discover the powerful secret pedophiles and meanwhile the powerful pedophiles out here sending gmails saying "Hi fellow pedophile when are we meeting to do pedophilia again"
Disgusting.

In an email on Sept. 11, 2013, Mr. Richard Branson, founder of the Virgin Group, wrote to Mr. Epstein, “It was really nice seeing you yesterday.” He added: “Any time you’re in the area would love to see you. As long as you bring your harem!”

Oh no, I've found someone who makes awesome replicas of Bronze & Iron age stuff.
Including the Carnyx, which I'm obsessed with.
