When Pam Bondi tried her hand at insult comedy this week, four Senators asked her about antitrust corruption. It's a real point of vulnerability, and the pressure has led to a few better outcomes. More importantly, states and the public are squarely attuned to fighting corporate power. From me:
How Antimonopoly is Enduring Despite Trumpian Corruption
Public pressure and partisan attacks have yielded some new cases, and citizens are waking up to corporate power’s harms.

remember when Matt Stoller was quoted repeatedly during the election season insisting that Trump 2.0 would be a continuation of Lina Khan's antitrust legacy and that we should take men like JD Vance and Josh Hawley seriously?

No fucking clue what Jacob is doing here

One of the only things Trump has ever been right about: Obama had no business winning the Nobel Peace Prize for what amounted to the accomplishment of being a US president who was not George W Bush. (Remember, he had been in office for eight months at the time.)

ok, here's DJT on the rare earth export controls that China has proposed. sorry for sharing tr*th s*cial posts, but apparently that's how us policy gets done this administration.
Some very strange things are happening in China! They are becoming very hostile, and sending letters to Countries throughout the World, that they want to impose Export Controls on each and every element of production having to do with Rare Earths, and virtually anything else they can think of, even if it’s not manufactured in China. Nobody has ever seen anything like this but, essentially, it would “clog” the Markets, and make life difficult for virtually every Country in the World, especially for China. We have been contacted by other Countries who are extremely angry at this great Trade hostility, which came out of nowhere. Our relationship with China over the past six months has been a very good one, thereby making this move on Trade an even more surprising one. I have always felt that they’ve been lying in wait, and now, as usual, I have been proven right! There is no way that China should be allowed to hold the World “captive,” but that seems to have been their plan for quite some time, starting with the “Magnets” and, other Elements that they have quietly amassed into somewhat of a Monopoly position, a rather sinister and hostile move, to say the least. But the U.S. has Monopoly positions also, much stronger and more far reaching than China’s. I have just not chosen to use them, there was never a reason for me to do so — UNTIL NOW! The letter they sent is many pages long, and details, with great specificity, each and every Element that they want to withhold from other Nations. Things that were routine are no longer routine at all. I have not spoken to President Xi because there was no reason to do so. This was a real surprise, not only to me, but to all the Leaders of the Free World. I was to meet President Xi in two weeks, at APEC, in South Korea, but now there seems to be no reason to do so. The Chinese letters were especially inappropriate in that this was the Day that, after three thousand years of bedlam and fighting, there is PEACE IN THE MIDDLE EAST....

Trump wants the power of the wrathful God of the Old Testament to smite anyone who displeases him from the heavens without consequence. He wants to normalize being be judge, jury, and executioner and he will eventually try it domestically. Now he’s testing to see who will follow his illegal orders.

I know the WGN morning news isn't actual news, but zero segments in the first 7:00am block mentioned yesterday's ICE abductions in the city. Zero.

From Reddit. Witnesses say ICE detained people at Lincoln and Foster. This also says that a WGN employee was detained too.

Today is World Homeless Day, and after years reporting on this crisis, I'll just say: homelessness is neither inevitable nor intractable. It's the result of choices—political, economic, moral—that can be unmade.

And this: how we treat the unhoused is a bellwether for the violence we will tolerate.

I'm at the scene where ICE abducted multiple people from Lincoln and Foster this morning.

A WGN producer was among the people taken, allegedly because she was among a group of bystanders who tried to intervene. ICE agents hit this car while making their getaway.

During a Sept. 30 ICE raid on a Chicago South Shore building, one resident hid a mother and her seven-year-old daughter in his apartment while federal agents arrested 37 people for alleged drug trafficking, weapons crimes and immigration violations.

During the Sept. 30 raid one tenant protected a terrified girl and her mom. Remnants at the complex, including a detailed map of all the units, offer clues to what authorities may have known before that night.
