I'd seen mention elsewhere recently of how we measure the poverty line and it is wild: it's a measurement from the 1960s to be a crisis threshold.
We have a “poverty trap” and it’s driving the destruction of social cohesion.
The “poverty line” is’t 35,000, it’s $150,000, and making more than one, and less than the other is worse than being “poor”.

Genuinely thrilled and speechless that a new drug was just approved my disability. This is on top of my daily medication that was approved five years ago. And it supposedly drastically improves motor usage, something I very much struggle with.

For those of you who didn't grow up in Latin American homes of certain generations, this basically what machismo culture is, but all gender (and by extension, queerness), and those norms are often violently enforced by the other men in your immediate social environment.
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.
