I guess on some level it's good to know that if we can't beat autocracy's most cartoonish avatar then we never had a chance at all

Why Should One Asshole Be Allowed To Do Whatever He Wants?

People who screamed “our history!” when we took down statues of disgraced slavers and traitors are curiously silent about an entire WING of the White House being illegally razed.

All of the Clinton-era conservative pearl clutching about the sanctity of the White House and the Democrats’ disrespect seems like it’s from another world now.

There was a whole scandal because Al Gore made fundraising calls from inside the building. They investigated the Clintons’ cat!
I'm old enough to remember when Republicans claimed to believe that the White House was such sacred space that getting a blow job in the Oval Office was grounds to remove a president from office.

Yeah a little part of my brain is just screaming 24/7 HOW IS NO ONE STOPPING THIS

I feel like he's been screaming some truly unhinged orders at people and we only know about the ones that get followed

The press treated Biden pardoning his son to shield him from the obviously malicious and lawless incoming Trump administration as a bigger scandal than anything Trump has done with DOJ since. (Guess why this is the case)
In the long run, Biden keeping that wall between himself and DOJ - leading to the conviction and humiliation of his son - achieved absolutely nothing. The standard is gone. The incentive for future presidents is to punish your enemies and say "your mom, lol" when reporters ask about it.
there are good & worthwhile historical & legal arguments for why the unitary executive is nonsense but to my mind the most straightforward argument is that it makes no logical sense that the president has absolute removal power over the people whose job it is to keep the executive branch accountable

“We will rebuild the White House as it was and pay for it by seizing assets from Trump, the Trump Organization, and his family.”
None of this is legal! People are choosing to break the law! Other people are choosing not to hold them accountable! What the fuck!!!

I think it’s sick how the President is both physically and symbolically destroying every single icon of America. This is great. I like how things are going. I love living through national decline.

it is kinda amazing that despite being world-emperor trumps brain can only think to run slightly larger-scale scams than the scams he ran when he as just a new york real estate mogul
It is honestly terrible trying to explain what is going on to people who are not on The Internet and who get their news from traditional sources. You sound crazy. I hate this timeline.

There are prominent, open Nazis who are followed by the Vice President of the United States and that fact and those people have literally never been reported on in a major outlet. It's an insane state of affairs built entirely around denial.

The Platner stuff reminds me of the Kavanaugh confirmation, because of the sneering at the idea that we should have high standards for a man who wants to be one of the most powerful people in the country.

in a way, hasn't this entire country turned out to have a metaphorical secret nazi tattoo that a lot of us weren't really aware of?

Me: So apparently there’s something wrong with this German tattoo and I need to change it

Tattoo lady: How about something Norse?

Me: Yeah I see nothing wrong with that

Tattoo lady: Or Imperial Rome

Me: I like the way you think
He removed it today. After it became a political liability.

If Obama said he “wouldn’t interfere” with the structure but then had torn down almost the entire East Wing of the White House without approval…
a live look at the demolition of the White House's East Wing for Trump's ballroom

Trump: "We have Darth Vader. You know Darth Vader, right? Darth Vader is a man who is sitting -- is that Darth? Stand up please. Does everybody know -- they call him Darth Vader, I call him a fine man. But he's cutting Democrat priorities and they're never gonna get them back."
I can appreciate he might not be the young man who got that tattoo. But I cannot think of one good reason to KEEP that tattoo for over a decade. There are artists out there who would cover it for free.

Chris Murphy: "There's a lot of history that has taken place in the East Wing & it was just destroyed without any conversation in the public, without any consent of Congress. It's absolutely illegal. That visual is powerful b/c you're watching destruction of the rule of law as those walls come down"

the next democratic president needs to roll up to the white house driving a crane with a wrecking ball on day one and smash this thing to bits

not even kidding, get your operating license and take the first whack at it yourself
The National Trust for Historic Preservation warned that President Trump’s planned 90,000-square-foot ballroom would “overwhelm the White House itself,” which spans just 55,000 square feet. https://wapo.st/4hmL8rC
Aren't there like 8 other people in the race? Certainly at least one of them isn't 78 and doesn't have a Nazi tattoo!
