Shared row data file with GPT5 to analyze, the result KPIs were crazy, so I naively asked, and innocently it responded.

Labour promises to repeal the RSB in the first 100 days.
Let’s make sure they are able to keep this promise.

People and businesses who thought they had it bad during Covid are finding out how it is during bad times when the government actually does abandon you. The differences couldn't be more stark #NZPol

About a month ago, the Trump administration got rid of the de minimis exemption, whereby packages valued under $800 could slide in without import duties. Now there's a backlog as the government can't process all of this paperwork, leading to UPS just destroying packages
Business Insider headline reads: UPS is telling customers that their packages coming to the US are marked for destruction.

I hate being a proper grown up engineer (or at least trying).
Let's just YOLO into prod. It'll be fine, right?!

Perhaps the *knowing it is fake* is key. Maybe there is negative enjoyment in finding out after the fact that you were fooled, but I've certainly seen stuff I didn't think was 'real' that was still funny/entertaining.

With so much content from so many people these days, that's a much higher bar than it used to be.
yort.bsky.social
The effort thing is somewhat harder to argue against, but again I don't know that was ever the point. Sometimes it's the idea that's funny rather than the execution. Usually, I only consider the effort involved in the execution when it's clear it's extreme/impressive.

I'm not so sure. Fake videos have existed for a long time, usually it was obvious they were fake so that helps, sometimes it was even the point, but I don't think real = enjoyable/not real=not enjoyable.

Warning:
- people are suffering from delusions fuelled by AI tools like ChatGPT. This will get worse;
- people find it hard to distinguish between #DeepFakes or the real thing. Same w AI generated "art";
- how will we know if news is real? Or #FakeNews?

This is a skill that should be taught to everyone, I’m asking around if there’s anything helpful (like a website with a game) for this

Pope Leo XIV says journalism is a public good we should all protect. Key to news media are transparency of sources of ownership, accountability, quality + objectivity. He says, Clickbait is degrading and urges reporters: never sell out your authority + ethics! 📰📺📻

I don't think I'm particularly special/good at spotting them, though some are obvious to me. Some I've seen that were clearly AI I've forwarded to friends because I thought they were funny/would be enjoyed despite that, but not everyone has the same capacity to detect, so maybe I shouldn't have 🤔

They've chosen to end bipartisanship on this issue. The next government will have no reason to take a compromise approach again. Make polluters pay, 100%, without delay. And farmers better plan ahead for it, not fritter away any short term profits from Luxon's irresponsibility.

Mind blowing.

The Luxon Government has confirmed it will rewrite NZ’s once bipartisan climate change law to dilute methane reduction targets and PERMANENTLY exclude dairy from the Emissions Trading Scheme – a move Greenpeace says amounts to full-blown climate denial.

Yeah, ok, that's a great point!

So, I guess for me it depends on the larger context of how it's presented, but I must confess, my thoughts are not fully formed on this.
I'm not a fan of the AI video thing at all, but trying to be careful of kneejerk reactions against new stuff, mostly because I'm already a dinosaur.
yort.bsky.social
Thanks, those are good points (especially the second one).
I guess I'm still slightly on the fence (haven't seen the specific videos being referenced) as to whether they are deceitful or not. We've had SFX for a long time, just because you see a video doesn't mean it's real...

I'm no fan of AI and can see a lot of danger in it, but; if a short fun video is short and fun, does it matter if it's AI? If it provides enjoyment the way it's intended, does it matter it's not real? If the point isn't fact, is it ok?

(Stealing from artists and loss of human creativity etc. aside)
