My zine about Hitchcock movies will be about 18k words and highlights his films that I like, or Spellbound which I dislike but I do enjoy complaining about. It ships out next week, plus there's now bundles so you can pick up all three of my horror movie zines cheaper. sara-century.square.site

I don’t know what that fallacy/human failing is called when you behave recklessly because the behavior has never harmed you in the past, but that’s what I think bad drivers are operating with.

It's not life and death if I do speed, you're blowing the problem out of proportion to feel artificially safe.

Absolutely fantastic.

One of the best things I've read all year along.

A critique of 'apartheid' frameworks, and the necessity to address the Settler-Colonialism that still remains unquestioned and well-protected, as most loudly seen with Israel now:

Fighting apartheid has become a global paradigm for justice struggles. That’s not how many Black liberationists in South Africa understood their cause.

The secret lore of book and toy shop owners holds that it is good to have a "Hollywood snow" in early November so that people's Gift Brains turn on, and they start shopping.

This year... we're just going to enjoy the flurries around our icicles, and do whatever we can to reduce others' stress. ❄️📚❤️

What is your all-time favorite Christmas movie?

I’ve got a few essentials but GREMLINS is it if we’re only allowed one Christmas movie in our dystopian future!

Adobe Acrobat has become so over-stuffed with AI that now it crashes whenever I try to do something small, like deleting a comment or moving a page of a document. You know, the stuff they built it to do originally!

Everyone imitates Tolkien all the time except when it comes to the one way it would really matter: making the protagonist of your novel for children a short, fat, 50-year-old man who doesn't want to do anything.

watch deep space 9. it’s one of the best television shows ever created. you don’t need to see any other trek series to understand it. it’s beautifully and ruggedly honest about fascism.

I’m really pleased with how 50 Cent’s Puff Daddy documentary spent some time on how terrible he is at rapping and how much he sucks musically. By the time he’s doing a lame cover of “Kashmir” for the Godzilla soundtrack with his AAAA rhyme scheme you see how embarrassing it is for everyone involved.

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

One of many Cambridge street watercolours I did 30-40 years ago. Working on the spot uniquely preserves memories and feelings. The shop signs at that time in Green St were extravagantly beautiful and the passers by were sketched in quickly. Still have this one.

The death of browsing is part of the reason art is the way it is now. Our opinions are largely fed to us by algorithms. Spending a spare 15 minutes wandering around a bookstore or comic shop or video rental place was how you found stuff you wouldn't ordinarily pick up and thereby expanded your taste
Bookselling is like the most "people go to the store and buy what looks cool to them without a particular agenda" type business left, and your purchases have a huge influence on what is ordered, what is displayed, and what is recommended.
