It's possible because Star Trek originally had fuck all budget and non-humanoid species were expensive effects.
Eventually the TNG writers said, "Hey, maybe we should explain why most of the aliens all look like humans" and gave all humanoid species in our galaxy a common ancestor.

Having a biological science background I'm aware its unlikely that unrelated species could have viable offspring, however these are all highly advanced technological species so its easy to head canon that they would use high tech tools to make it possible if they love each other.

Btw as someone who is intimately familiar with The Big Lebowski, wow the new 4K transfer is a night and day improvement over the old HD transfer used for the blu-ray/streaming. Richer colors, nowhere near as washed out. Way more dynamic image. Highly recommend watching it that way if you can
get you a girl who wakes up at midnight and realizes that she wanted to rewatch The Big Lebowski so she starts digging through her yet-to-be-unpacked bluray boxes to look for digital codes she never redeemed while in the States and redeems about a dozen movies on her account all at once
