Pope Leo XIV has blasted how wealthy people live in a “bubble of comfort and luxury” while the poor suffer. In his first teaching document Thursday, Leo confirms that he is in perfect lockstep with Pope Francis on matters of social injustice.

people on here apparently need to learn a lesson most of us learn in elementary school, which is that it’s fucking rude to correct people on zero stakes things and doing so leads rightfully to social ostracism

People who live in big cities and have MAGA relatives in rural and suburban areas are getting deja vu, that's for sure.

We've all had conversations with relatives who insist they know better than us what our cities are like. That we must be deluded not to see the constant riots and muggings.

Prosperity Gospel, and its attendant implications about who "deserves" wealth, and who wealth belongs to, have been a rot on our society.

So many of the wealthiest among us are the weakest and most craven. It's not a coincidence.

So many normal people being brave and then all these wealthy and powerful people being cowards. History will not be kind to the people like shari Redstone who enabled Trump.

If Roberts were a true institutionalist, he would have publicly called on Mitch McConnell to allow Obama to have his nomination considered.

He allowed that crack in SCOTUS' foundation, and he has only let it grow deeper and wider ever since.

Respect Patrick's perspective, but since Scalia's passing every 5-4 ruling has been substantively illegitimate. And with the sweeping adoption of unsigned shadow docket rulings, they've tipped over the ledge to becoming procedurally illegitimate as well.

This era will be one of counter-precedent.

twice a year the entire U.S. press becomes a marketing extension of a single billionaire-owned retailer, and nobody in any position of editorial power thinks it's weird or gross

keep calling and telling them to stand strong

the difference between last time (when they got yelled at incessantly for caving) and this time needs to be a chasm in terms of the feedback they're getting from constituents

we can get them to hold

I'm on the slowest bus line in the city with the slowest buses in the nation to talk to New Yorkers about what it would mean for their lives if we made them fast and free.

Stephen Miller believes that if he supercharges the debate over Trump's abuses of power with enough propaganda, he can polarize it and force low-info voters to embrace authoritarianism. Pritzker/Newsom have accepted that this requires an information war in response.

USAID was both morally correct and a huge part of our foreign policy, and that duality is hard for people to grapple with in a sincere way. But if we're going to reconstitute USAID after this shitshow is over, we should think about the pressures that creates and how to mitigate them

This is King Trump directly taxing all of us and then choosing which pet groups get the spoils, solely for his own political benefit.

Like, yes, fund WIC. But do it because we the people say so, not so Trump can avoid the political blowback of his disastrous shutdown.

The notion that Bari will be "running CBS News" is slightly misleading. What the reporting suggests is that Tom Cibrowski, a guy with normal qualifications, will be doing that. Bari will be Emperor Ellison's Vader-esque enforcer, outside the chain of command, intervening at will.

One of the more incredible stories out of LA this year has been how a taco review blog became the best on-the-ground coverage of ICE raids in the city.

They do a dispatch every day, follow-up on the kidnapped people (which almost no media outlet has done), and fact-check government claims.
