In the last few years I tried my hand at learning some C and maybe write some tiny games for the old #C64 (I don't have the skills or brains for Assembly).
It's beyond hard and the results are very simple, but believe me it feels great to watch anything you wrote run on a 40+ years old computer.

My guy, you’re describing dedicating your professional life to producing literal garbage.

#C64 #Kouyate #RPG progress: a visit to the shipwright allows ships to be built. So with one already built, one can do a bit of sailing. And then one can perhaps find Pirate's Bay, the 2nd pirate town, on an island... I hear they sell good stuff there, yarr...

My Favourite ‘B’ Games - No.25

Big Mac The Mad Maintenance Man

Not a McDonald’s licence game, but a very playable platformer. The graphics and sound are simple, but the level design is solid and the gameplay is instantly addictive. A cracking early budget release from Mastertronic.

Anyway, again, I say: consider hiring localizers for your creative writing needs. Anybody who lasts in this field has the chops to deliver polished, on-spec material without compromising the process. (And, quite frankly, free of a lot of the technical/compositional sloppiness you'll find elsewhere.)

He does not want Star Trek. He wants to co-opt the aesthetic of Star Trek to sell his techno-feudalist futurist wet dream. Star Trek hates men like him.
"We want to make Star Trek real," said Elon Musk.

"We want to make Starfleet Academy real so that it's not always science fiction, but one day the science fiction turns to science fact."

Bill Watterson is my favorite cartoonist. I adored the relationship btw Calvin and Hobbes as a child. But as I've gotten older, these strips feel even more tender and insightful. My respect for him grew when I learned of his stance against merchandising. Such principles are almost unheard of today.

"i will never be able to play all games or watch all movies or read all books that i want" is a tough yet fundamental lesson to learn. there isn't enough time in a human life

therefore, you can and should be selective
*mentions he doesn't play games with genAI* "but you'll miss out on good games!"

Over 20,000 games were released on steam alone last year. No matter what happens I'll miss out on a lot of good games.

One thing I don't have is a shortage of options that don't require compromising my values.

41 years ago this week, Commodore introduced its much misunderstood C-128. Ask anyone, and everything about it should have been different. Like the CPU. So why didn't Commodore use a 65816 CPU? Because it wasn't available yet. #retrocomputing #vintagecomputing dfarq.homeip.net/commodore-12...
Commodore 128 introduced Jan 5, 1985
The Commodore 128, announced January 5, 1985 and released later that year, has always been a controversial computer.

Allow me to connect some dots for you:

Too much of the world currently relies for its basic functions on resources which must be continuously extracted. You burn that oil one time and oops, now you need more.

Geopolitical horrors are, in fact, one of the reasons we need to move to renewables ASAP.

The funniest thing to me about the Mandala Effect is that it’s basically rooted in fear and insecurity. People want to believe that their memory is like a recording instead of like a game of electrical meat telephone, and will embrace the most absurd theories over the terrifying reality.

Love how some bullshit "AI" story is on top of The Guardian.

No, "AI" doesn't show signs of self-preservation.

"AI" does not exist. It doesn't have permanence, thoughts, reasoning or consciousness.

The reason people believe all those things, or rather they think they "know" it to be so is solely that AI user interfaces are deliberately designed to simulate human conversation and interaction.

This is a deception that's carefully crafted to remove your safeguards and skepticism.

Big Tech is offering you a Faustian bargain. It promises to remove all the friction from life, to keep you from having to think or study, and the result is your brain will become pudding, you’ll become incapable of creativity or communication. They want to make you a non-person.
