📣THREAD: It’s surprising to me that so many people were surprised to learn that Signal runs partly on AWS (something we can do because we use encryption to make sure no one but you–not AWS, not Signal, not anyone–can access your comms).

It’s also concerning. 1/
PSA: we're aware that Signal is down for some people. This appears to be related to a major AWS outage. Stand by.

Chatbots — LLMs — do not know facts and are not designed to be able to accurately answer factual questions. They are designed to find and mimic patterns of words, probabilistically. When they’re “right” it’s because correct things are often written down, so those patterns are frequent. That’s all.

500K Mexican-Americans served in the U.S. armed forces in WWII, as did millions of 1st and 2nd-gen immigrants, and 109K noncitizens.

Mexican immigrant Macario Garcia won the Medal of Honor in Normandy. When he returned to the US, he was was arrested for trying to eat at a segregated restaurant.

I have a story about due process in a mass adjudicatory setting.

A while back, there was this group called the Fundamentalist Church of Latter Day Saints that had a compound in rural Texas. Well these FLDS folks dressed funny (like bonnets and long dresses and suspenders and corncob pipes funny).

Since the Trump admin continues to claim Mr. Abrego Garcia is a gang member, I thought I'd take the time to put together a timeline, based on all the documents filed in court, which lays out all the "evidence" the government has ever offered.

As you'll find out, there's very little "there" there!

Apropos of nothing, remember that time the US military threw Geraldo out of Iraq for drawing a map on TV? "He gave away the big picture stuff," one stunned senior military official told CNN. "He went down in the sand and drew where the forces are going."

The most obvious thing about this is it is evil and sociopathic. But there’s another element: speaking as someone who has both prosecuted fraudsters and defended people very wrongfully accused of being fraudsters, it’s absolute bullshit.

BREAKING: Trump's billionaire Commerce Secretary says that seniors won't care if they don't get their Social Security checks — and that anyone who does complain is a fraudster.

Trump did this in 2020 btw while he assassinated Michael Reinoehl. some of us tried to warn about it but as soon as Biden won there was no real desire among elected Dems to hold anyone accountable for stuff like that
yeah i think the President has discovered that he can deputize whomever he wants as a US Marshal and that any member of federal law enforcement can technically enforce any law
I also have questions about the arresting officers at Columbia. They didn’t act like trained, American law enforcement to me. Way too casual, interesting syntax, and of course the refusal to say what agency they were from, or their names.

What exactly is behind that distrust, particularly in the measles vaccine? Here’s how the fully debunked and false conspiracy theories about the measles vaccine came to be.
Here's Where Those False Measles Vaccine Conspiracy Theories Came From
The MMR vaccine is safe, effective, and the best tool to stop the current outbreak. So why do all those false conspiracy theories persist?

This is absurdly great, but I haven't read a single news article about it. A fully open source, offline-first alternative to Notion that's a collab between the French and German governments because they want to host docs securely and on their own terms. THIS is what Europe should be doing.

"dei medal" you might as well just put "n*gger medal" because that's what they mean to say
This is blood-boiling. Charles Rogers was awarded the Medal of Honor in Vietnam after being wounded three times leading the defense of a position.

Google his name and the entry below comes up. When you click, you'll see the page has been deleted and the URL changed to include "DEI medal."

Oh! She has! In at least one interview she talked about the briefings she's received on counter-intelligence. She has made music videos to click tracks instead of audio so it wouldn't leak.
Taylor Swift is a legitimate security expert like almost nobody in the world. She has to be. She's the target.
I just want a serious journalist to ask actual Taylor about InfoSec. She’s sufficiently impressive I wouldn’t be surprised if she gave a cogent answer. Like Guy Goma in reverse.
