the harm rowling has done to the trans community both in the UK and abroad is (and has been for a while) irrefutable and irreparable, and has largely been allowed to be ignored due to fans of her work glossing over the things they find uncomfortable to contend with. i don't care. be uncomfortable.

Happy #TransDayOfVisibility! In my newsletter, I wrote about a time when I decided to be *less* visible as a trans person — and how it allowed me to come back twice as hardcore.

🥗 guaranteed income pilot for people experiencing homelessness in Denver saved nearly $600k in public services costs.

Tell me again why we can’t afford guaranteed income or #UBI?
Denver gave people experiencing homelessness $1,000 a month.

Results showed that close to half of the participants secured housing, and nearly $600K saved in public service costs due to fewer ER visits & jail stays. They also saw improved mental health.

This would also be illegal.

Trump cannot criminalize conduct via executive order, and he certainly can't reinterpret state criminal law. This is intended most of all to terrify people.

If you are a teacher, consult an attorney for the laws in your state. But don't comply in advance.
1. Getting word that we have another anti-trans EO tonight, this time targeting teachers.

It directs the federal government to work with state AGs to put teachers who use trans kids pronouns in jail through "sexual exploitation" laws or "practicing medicine without a license."

Here's your daily reminder that bookstores keep the love of reading alive — but they also keep neighborhoods beautiful. They are places to gather, to celebrate stories, to find community.

Please do your holiday shopping at your local independent bookstore, if you are lucky enough to still have one.
