Mr. Isidro Perez was a 75-year-old Cuban man taken into ICE custody on 6/5/25 after being in the U.S. for 60 years. He had two drug possession convictions in the 80’s.

Mr. Perez was hospitalized from 6/17-6/25 and released. He died in ICE custody on June 26th.

Completely senseless.

“ICE gets a bigger budget than the Marine Corps” is a simple fact that should be communicated very widely because it clearly expresses how crazy and radical this is
dburbach.bsky.social
With this budget, ICE alone would have nearly as large a detention operation as all 50 states' prison systems combined. Bigger budget than the Marine Corps. Police-state levels of spending
reichlinmelnick.bsky.social
If the GOP reconciliation bill passes, ICE gets through FY2029:

- $45 billion for detention, on top of the current annual budget of $3.4 billion
- $14.4 billion for transportation and removal, on top of the current annual budget of $750 million
- $8 billion for hiring/retention
- Billions more.

Personal stories hit different - if you'd be affected by Medicaid cuts, please call and tell your Senators!

It's URGENT that we hit the phone lines this weekend re: the "Big, Beautiful" Senate bill, especially if you're a constituent of Sen. Paul (KY), Tillis (NC), Johnson (WI), Collins (ME), or Hawley (MO).

If you aren't sure what to say, I've drafted a script.

www.senate.gov/senators/sen...
This is a picture of a phone script for calling a Senator's office. It says:

"Hi, I'm [NAME], a constituent from [PLACE].

[If you're leaving a voicemail, be sure to leave your city, state, and zip code!! They simply won't care about your opinion as much if they can't confirm you're a constituent.]

I'm calling to urge Senator [NAME] to vote NO on the "Big Beautiful Bill" currently up for consideration in the Senate (, and to please also urge [HIS/HER] colleague Senator [NAME] to do the same.)

I have serious concerns about this legislation. The bill cuts Medicaid and SNAP to pay for tax breaks for the wealthy. These cuts will hurt our rural hospitals, and research shows Medicaid work requirements strip coverage from vulnerable people without increasing employment. In fact, CBO just estimated that the bill would cause nearly 12 million Americans to lose their health insurance while adding over $3 trillion to the debt.

The bill also shifts Medicaid costs to [YOUR STATE NAME], which could force cuts to services for older adults and people with disabilities.

Please urge Senator [NAME] to vote NO.

Can you share my concerns with [HIM/HER] and let me know [HIS/HER] position?

Thank you."

Opinion | The progressive left means well, but they come across as painfully out of touch with reality. Here are some prescriptions for them that I jotted down in the charter gondola on the way to the Bezos wedding.

Instead of piling on and sharing that op-ed that, for some reason, tries to put a silver lining on Trump's slashing of NIH funding, I'm sharing this @propublica.org piece that more accurately demonstrates the vastness of the damage being done to health research.
Shattered Science: The Research Lost as Trump Targets NIH Funding
The Trump administration cut research funding that sought cures for future pandemics, examined the causes of dementia and tried to prevent HIV transmission. More than 150 researchers shared with ProPu...

"Few of Musk’s associates expected this to last forever, but they are sad that it had come to this."
New York Times: Elon Musk’s friends and associates on Thursday are in a state of disbelief. Several said they, like the rest of Washington, are glued to their computers as they watched their friend joust with President Trump, unsure what exactly his plan is.

Few of Musk’s associates expected this to last forever, but they are sad that it had come to this.

the speed at which these guys have broken everything has given a lot of folks who should know better the impression that they are an unstoppable force and the only option is to negotiate the terms of surrender

just because the clown car goes very fast does not mean it isn’t full of clowns

Whatever the immediate fallout of the scandal, what is going to stick around is the impression it gives, of hapless idiots doing ridiculous things. And I think that seriously reduces the appeal of capitulating to these jokers.

Musk isn't a visionary. He's a dipshit with a lousy sense of risk. Yes, the Sun will steadily brighten and in a billion years or so make it too hot for us to live here, but we're already making it too hot for us to live here right now. And Musk is siding with the people bent on making that worse.
michaelhobbes.bsky.social
It's so incredible to still see the left accused of moral relativism when every conservative column is just 'yes all of our leaders are bad but the people calling them bad sometimes exaggerate.'
For better or worse, Elon Musk is a visionary. I have no doubt that he’s volatile and reckless, but those who dismiss him as a fraud or an idiot have not been paying close attention. Yes, his time meddling with the federal government has come to an end. And yes, perhaps his foray into politics was, in part, a disappointment to him. But Mr. Musk’s vision goes well beyond Washington. He has always been clear on this point and continues to tell anyone who will listen: “Eventually, all life on Earth will be destroyed by the sun,” he told Fox News last month. “The sun is gradually expanding, and so we do at some point need to be a multi-planet civilization, because Earth will be incinerated.”
