The Olivia Nuzzi story and the Bari Weiss at CBS story are the same story, which is that the upper echelons of legacy media are absolutely rife with people who worship power and don't feel burdened by any sense of responsibility to their profession or the public.

Galaxy Quest, like Iron Giant , Fury Road and Tremors, is one of those rare movies without flaws. It's not just good, but miraculous.
Galaxy Quest - a perfect movie, just a wonderful love letter to actors, sci-fi, Star Trek in particular, and to fandom - really deserves a proper physical release with decent extras. Think Weaver's right that releasing a R-rated cut would be fun, too.

Sigourney Weaver reflected on cult classic Galaxy Quest and how she wishes the sci-fi satire had released an R-rated director's cut.

There's a lot that could be said about how our current dystopia partly stems from the failed utopian dreams of a bunch of stupidly rich sci-fi nerds who've never come to terms with the fact that all the science and technology in the world isn't going to magically turn real life into Star Trek.
he also failed but my point is that a lot of the bad tech ideas right now are due to crashouts about the stagnation of tech which began when phones all became more ore less the same ~2015 and tech guys couldn't handle the idea that the industry wasn't going to lead to the scifi they grew up reading

I think the toxic current correlation between “studied STEM” and “techbro sociopathy” isn’t really about the subject matter itself but is about how our culture has spent 25 years constantly blowing smoke up the asses of guys who are even passably competent at Computer or Quant
there is not any particularly strong evidence that study of the humanities make people good people. the elites of many brutal empires were extremely well-read!

Correlation isn't perfect but as a rule of thumb this is correct.
There is a direct correlation between how fake your job is and how much value you see in AI
A study by Dayforce shows 87% of executives use AI for work, compared to 57% of managers and just 27% of employees.

I think this explains the massive disconnect we see in how CEOs talk about AI versus everyone else. It also raises the question of how useful it truly is for frontline work?
