CBS pulled the 60 Minutes CECOT segment, but Canada aired it anyway.

The segment was streaming via Global TV and YouTube (since taken down). Having a VPN set to Canada helped. 🇨🇦

My take, there is no reason we shouldn’t see this. Most of it was known information, easily searchable.

This is what the Asst AG for Civil Rights is doing.
So many Amendments, so little time.
BREAKING: The Trump administration is suing D.C. over its ban on semi-automatic (AR-15) weapons.

DOJ's Civil Rights Division under Harmeet Dhillon is seeking a court ruling that D.C.'s law "prohibiting registration of the AR-15 by law-abiding citizens violates the Second Amendment."

When we say "no, everything hasn't been digitized," I need you to understand that we really mean is that virtually nothing has been digitized. This is because the realm of primary sources that historians use is incomprehensibly large.

Walter Benjamin wrote that the work of translation is “to liberate the language imprisoned in a work" to find the “pure language” of “the unfathomable, the mysterious, the ‘poetic’”. This is all, of course, utterly anathema to AI
As a multiple language speaker it's also frustrating to see people using AI for translation because the English speaking world tends to treat translators like workers for hire instead of co authors of text and this feels like more of it. Translation at the literary level is creative work.

Casual reminder that the myth of “pulling yourself up by your bootstraps” is a cruel hoax designed to convince poor people from all walks of life that the injustices they face are a result of their own actions, rather than an oppressive system rigged against them.

I think it's actually quite beautiful we live at the same time as a writer and orator whose style is so distinctive, and has pushed the boundaries of the English language so far, that you hear the phrase "her undergarments, sometimes referred to as panties" and immediately know that's the President

"They hate you, Rudolph. They hate you for your strength, your self-reliance, for being a… a misfit. This world won't accept you. So to be worthy of you, I will choose to suffer."
Ayn Rand Writes Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer

No one has ever said "just be bad and post it on the internet" though. Artists have said that being "bad" at art is part of the process of creating and getting good at it (to whatever degree you decide good means). You don't ever have to share your art and you're still an artist, too.
I mean, things are tough all over. If rude criticism stops you from making art, you should probably not be making art.

what.... what would be the point of that?

I will never, ever, understand people who want to outsource their humanity. Learning how to make something feels amazing. And I mean the whole process, including the frustrating times. Because then you know you MADE it. You can't feel genuine pride in something you didn't make.

Remember how I said I have it written into my foreign-language contracts that my work has to be translated by an actual human? This shit is why.

Those book translations are gonna suck. They'll save money putting out books that are going to be painful to read. That's not a great long-term strategy.
French publishing house Harlequin decided to use AI translation instead of human translations.

All their freelance translators (some of whom had been working with Harlequin for +30y!!!) were told they would no longer receive work from Harlequin

Whuuuuuuut
Today, Trump declared that the nation will host the first-ever “Patriot Games,” an “unprecedented four-day athletic event” featuring high school athletes, one boy and one girl, from each state and territory.

If you think this sounds like The Hunger Games, you're not alone.
Trump just announced his own Hunger Games
In case you needed a reminder that we're living in a fascist hellscape.
