I take Wikipedia for granted. Reading this Jimmy Wales interview reminded me in our Fantasyland age what a remarkable and important creation it is. True pillar of civilization. Runs on only $200 million a year. Requires our support. So I’m finally donating. Gift link: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/18/m...

How are we still making discoveries about the 5000-year-old ancestor to English, Latin, Czech, Hindi and many other languages?

In our latest episode we get enthusiastic about figuring out Proto-Indo-European with @dannybate.bsky.social!
110: The history of the history of Indo-European - Interview with Danny Bate
Before there was English, or Latin, or Czech, or Hindi, there was a language that they all have in common, which we call Proto-Indo-European. Linguists have long been fascinated by the quest to get a

3 years ago today, Riot Games offered me a job making more money than I ever thought I’d make in my life. I had 19 interviews over 2.5 months to get it. Partner and I were moving to LA for it. I put in notice at my job and apartment.

2 weeks later they rescinded the offer due to “headcount issues”.

Somebody pointed out that Garland was part of the whole pedo-mafia operation but she got banned
The horrifying emails coming from the Estate (and not the DOJ) made me think about something else. Merrick Garland had access to all the Epstein Files and I'm sure he knows what's in them and he could've gone after Trump for that in addition to J6 but he didn't. Garland protected pedos.

Suspending Sarah Kendzior, of all people, seems so fundamentally misguided. How could BlueSky not easily understand the obvious context and reference here? What does it say about having to self-police speech on a platform when anything could get you kicked off at any point with no explanation?

Also worth pointing out that The Guardian apparently has a strategic partnership with OpenAI. So this string of stories on this subject should rightly be understood as _wildly_ biased.
The language of non-consent around AI is really telling. "It's too late to be scared." "It's here whether we want it or not." "You'll have to learn to work with it." "You can't fight the inevitable."

All just variations of "you're not allowed to say no." Creepy technology made by creepy people.
