I've been resisting replying to a lot of posts today, because I wanted to think. And I think that we are at a unique crisis point right now on the left.

You can not spend a year running on telling us that democracy will end if this guy wins, and then just turn around and say, "well norms, you know"

Back before chemo gave me alcohol intolerance I used to have Bailey’s on Cheerios as an after-dinner treat.

That’s something you can just…do.

I just finished listening to The Cloud Roads, and am partly through the next. Good story, interesting characters, rich world building. Would recommend!
Plus here’s the FBC review for @marthawells.com’s The Cloud Roads from over 14 years ago where we called it:

“The Cloud Roads is a terrific fantasy novel that stands out due to imaginative world-building, accomplished writing and engaging storytelling”

Got a call from my plumber today that the basement looks fantastic. Apparently all the work this weekend was worth it!

2/3 most of the time, sometimes 1. I can't listen to audiobooks while hiking cause I'll get to the end of the hike and the only thing I remember is the movie that played in my head from the book, not what I was actually looking at. And I can't always remember if a scene was a movie or a book.
BlueSky people. What’s your level of mind visualization according to this scale? I’m only a 3 or 4 😕

I just watched a video of someone washing a 70 year old singer sewing machine in the shower, and now I kind of want to try it with my featherweight. Which is actually acceptably clean, but the allure of stripping all the ancient oil out is strong

My mom used to refer to the plaza with the old People's Laundry which always gave us a giggle
Has anyone lived in their town long enough that they’re constantly saying sentences like “Yknow the new coffee shop that used to be the dispensary and was the bead shop before, next door to the place that was the bike repair place and became the Asian food market and is now the Jimmy John’s.”

A great story about my friends who were forced out of Texas, written by -- gasp! -- a trans writer who actually knows what they're talking about. The difference between this story and most coverage are night & day. Made me cry.
A family fled to WA to protect their trans child. Here’s how their life changed
One year after relocating to the Seattle area, a family reflects on why their difficult move from Austin was worth it to protect their trans daughter.

My office has a new VoIP phone system, but until we get the auto reception set up all the phones in the office ring and we have to take turns picking up. In the last 5 years of not having to answer the office phone I've forgotten how.

Lemme actually port the thread over; Sleep Deprived TTRPG thought:

Elves, Dwarves, and Gnomes all live far longer than other races. The three of them handle it very differently.

Dwarves are patient gardeners. They live to their 350s, so taking 20 years to learn something is to them as 4 is to us.
I built this into Gnomes in my home setting, where they have a hermit-crab style approach to workshops.

When a gnome outgrows theirs, or wants to do something their workshop can't anymore, they'll just move into a new bigger one, leaving projects in progress for the next person to take up in turn.
there should be some sort of hyperfixation exchange system where people post the $200 of crap they bought for a hobby they never fucking did and it can go to the next person who thinks they want to do resin crafts or whatever
