A second Trump presidency will be a danger to public health and health care, but the ACA is bigger, stronger, and more sustainable now than it was in 2017.

A few thoughts on how the policy and politics of the ACA have changed since 2017 and made repeal even harder…1/x

In 2017, when the Republicans tried to repeal the ACA, one of the key factors in its ultimate failure was the opposition of almost every sector of the health care industry.

The scale and scope of the health care cuts contained in the GOP budget will likely (if more slowly) create similar opposition

More than 250 hospital leaders flew into Washington on Tuesday to urge senators to preserve Medicaid as part of an American Hospital Association lobbying campaign. The association spent almost $8.5 million on lobbying in the first quarter of the year.

The JCPOA was one of the greatest diplomatic achievements of the 21st century. Multiple nations, several powerful blocks, a ton of oversight and the entire time diplomats were working it out domestic American media & politicians were demonizing it, lying about it, and trying to sabotage it. They won

Reminder that none of this would've been possible if not for the neocons manipulating Trump's hatred of Obama to kill the JCPOA. From there, safeguards became unconstrained enrichment and all the scary things they're trotting out became possible.

Be careful buying what these guys are still selling.

Trump bombing Iran was illegal and unjustified.

I ran for Congress to make sure our leaders consider the true costs of war.

And I will be in the Senate, standing on my titanium legs, demanding answers from Trump.

Chuck Schumer: "No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy." (via Punchbowl)
Leader Schumer Statement On
U.S. Strikes On Iran
New York, N. Y. - Today, Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer (D-NY) released the following statement after President Trump announced that the United States struck targets in Iran:
"President Trump must provide the American people and Congress clear answers on the actions taken tonight and their implications for the safety of Americans. No president should be allowed to unilaterally march this nation into something as consequential as war with erratic threats and no strategy. Confronting Iran's ruthless campaign of terror, nuclear ambitions, and regional aggression demands strength, resolve, and strategic clarity. The danger of wider, longer, and more devastating war has now dramatically increased.
"We must enforce the War Powers Act and I'm urging Leader Thune to put it on the Senate floor immediately. I am voting for it and implore all Senators on both sides of the aisle to vote for it."

We have bombed a nation we are not at war with and have done so without Congress knowing about it, voting on it or approving it. President Trump’s actions are not only unconstitutional—they are dangerous.

AOC: “It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.”
The President's disastrous decision to bomb Iran without authorization is a grave violation of the Constitution and Congressional War Powers.
He has impulsively risked launching a war that may ensnare us for generations.
It is absolutely and clearly grounds for impeachment.

So we know a few things -- Rubio and Hegseth, along with Vance, were behind Trump as the yesmen/props they are. Hegseth will brief at 8am, whether that's a proper military briefing or the verbal equivalent of 🔥emojis remains to be seen. No diplomatic plan, just "peace must come quickly."

There's no declaration of war, and no AUMF that covers this. Entering this war is wrong on the merits; we had a perfectly peaceful way to address Iran's nuclear program. It's also unlawful. A democratic republic should not be able to enter a war of choice on one man's say-so.

this is as good as turning the Constitution off. If this is what congressional leaders are going to do when an executive just seizes power from the legislative branch, we do not have one.

This is not about the merits of Iran’s nuclear program. No president has the authority to bomb another country that does not pose an imminent threat to the US without the approval of Congress. This is an unambiguous impeachable offense.

This is the Washington Post - today - describing the fact that RFK Jr. does not believe that HIV is the cause of AIDS.

It is not controversial at all. It is a fringe, extremist conspiracy based in science denial and it is objectively false.
It is unclear whether Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. plans to bring the guidance in line with his own controversial views about an infectious disease that 30 years ago was the leading cause of death for people 25
to 44 years old.
